UFC 52 TICKETS ON SALE,
CARD LOOKS GREAT AS WELL

Tickets have went on sale for UFC 52 this weekend in Las Vegas. The show will feature a second meeting between Randy Couture and Chuck Liddell at the MGM Grand on April 16th.

At the post-fight press conference for UFC 51, Dana White announced the entire line-up for UFC 52. UFC 52 will take place on Saturday, April 16th on pay-per-view with the following eight fights:

-Randy Couture vs. Chuck Liddell

-Matt Hughes vs. Frank Trigg

-Matt Lindland vs. Travis Lutter

-Georges St. Pierre vs. Jason Miller

-Lee Murray vs. Patrick Cote

-Trevor Prangley vs. Ivan Salaverry

-Renato "Babalu" Sobral vs. Travis Wiuff

-Mike Van Arsdale vs. John Marsh

Other notes:

-The April 9th live special on Spike TV will feature the light-heavyweight finals and middleweight finals from the reality show, and "another UFC fight," as Dana White put it. That wording would seem to imply "one more fight," and it is believed that it COULD be Ken Shamrock vs. Rich Franklin at 205 pounds (though White didn't say that at the post-fight press conference).

-When asked about the possibility of a fight between Evan Tanner and Matt Lindland, Dana White said that it's a strong possibility, and that Lindland would probably get a title shot if he wins one more UFC fight.

-When asked if he expects Frank Mir to fight on the UFC card in Japan later this year, White said that UFC Japan is in June, and he doesn't expect Frank Mir to be recovered in time to fight on the June card due to the severity of his injuries.

More info on UFC 52 card:

-Regarding the possibility of Ken Shamrock vs. Rich Franklin taking place on the April 9th live special on Spike TV, you have to understand that Ken Shamrock vs. anyone is marketable and is a big ratings draw. Franklin was always a good light-heavyweight (he was actually 14-1 as a light-heavyweight); he just felt that he could be dominant at middleweight. If the fight actually comes off, Franklin will have moved up to 205 because it would be well worth the risk for the potential benefit of name recognition for beating Ken Shamrock on national free television.

-There is no truth whatsoever to rumors of Frank Shamrock fighting Rich Franklin, or anyone else, in a future UFC fight. Also, Tito Ortiz is not fighting in April anywhere.

-There have been a lot of questions about the weight classes for specific fights, so we're going to go through that right now along with other info about the line-up.

-The top two fights are obviously Couture vs. Liddell for the Light-Heavyweight Title, and Hughes vs. Trigg for the Welterweight Title.

-Matt Lindland vs. Travis Lutter will be a middleweight fight. Lindland has won four of his last five fights overall, but his most recent UFC fight was a one-punch knockout at the hands of David Terrell. This will be Lutter's first fight since he made his UFC debut by knocking out Marvin Eastman back in October.

-Georges St. Pierre vs. Jason Miller will be a welterweight fight. St. Pierre suffered the first loss of his career when he was submitted by Matt Hughes back at UFC 50 in October, but he has since bounced back with a submission victory over Dave Strasser in Canada. Twenty-four year-old Jason Miller will be making his UFC debut and fighting for the first time since he submitted Ronald Jhun at a SuperBrawl event last October.

-Lee Murray vs. Patrick Cote will be a middleweight fight. Cote had previously announced that he was moving down from light-heavyweight to middleweight, and that is where this fight will be contested (Murray is not moving up to 205 at this time). It was interesting to hear Dana White announce this fight since not too long ago the line on Lee Murray was that he still couldn't leave England due to legal issues. For this fight to have been signed and announced, Murray must have worked out his legal problems, or at least worked them out enough that he will be able to leave England by April. Murray has not been very active since his UFC debut, a win over Jorge Rivera in January 2004. Since then, Murray has only fought one time, a unanimous decision loss to Anderson Silva in England.

-Trevor Prangley vs. Ivan Salaverry will be a middleweight fight. This fight was tentatively scheduled to take place at UFC 50 back in October, but Prangley had to pull out due to injury and was replaced in the fight by Tony Fryklund. Salaverry went on to beat Fryklund by submission to improve his UFC record to 2-1 (while Fryklund has since moved down to welterweight). For Prangley, this will be the first time he has fought since last June, when he was victorious in his UFC debut against Curtis Stout.

-Renato "Babalu" Sobral vs. Travis Wiuff will be a light-heavyweight fight. After spending his career fighting between 230 and 280 pounds, Wiuff will now be cutting down to 205, much to the shock of a lot of people (including me). Wiuff only had one shot in the UFC the last time around, losing to Vladimir Matyushenko back at UFC 40, and has been very active with a 21-1 record since that fight. Sobral's last UFC fight was also at UFC 40, where he was knocked out by Chuck Liddell. Since then, Sobral has won six fights in a row to earn his way back into the UFC, including a memorable IFC tournament in 2003 in which he defeated Trevor Prangley, Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, and Jeremy Horn on the same night.

-John Marsh vs. Mike Van Arsdale is likely to be a heavyweight fight. This is not official and it could very well end up being fought at light-heavyweight, but this fight is more than likely going to take place at heavyweight. Both Marsh and Van Arsdale were recently scheduled to have heavyweight fights in the UFC, but had to pull out due to injuries suffered in training. Marsh has fought between 220 and 230 pounds in his career, while Van Arsdale had been anywhere from 205 to 220. Marsh had gone for almost four years without fighting before making his comeback in May 2004, winning a unanimous decision against Wes "Cabbage" Correira in Hawaii. The 39-year-old Van Arsdale has been much more active in submission grappling competition than he has been in MMA, and this will be his first UFC fight since UFC 17.

MMA MEDIA WILL TRY TO PETITION NSAC TO OVERTURN SUPPOSEDLY BIASED BELFORT-ORTIZ DECISION

Prominent members of the MMA Media will try to petition the Nevada State Athletic Commission to overturn the supposedly biased and controversial judges decision in the Vitor Belfort vs. Tito Ortiz fight.

Many true media and fans of NHB/MMA feel now is the time to make a stand against judges decision that seem either inept, biased, and/or corrupt. The MMA media ask for all the loyal fans of NHB/MMA who thought Vitor Belfort won the fight to do the same by contacting the Nevada State Athletic Commission and letting them know how you feel.

Nevada Department of Business & Industry
Nevada Athletic Commission
555 E. Washington Avenue, Ste 3200
Las Vegas, NV 89101
PHONE (702)486-2575
FAX (702)486-2577

Here are some quotes from MMA media and fans regarding the fight:

"Vitor clearly won that fight by a score of 29-28, and always went for the finish, whereas Tito never really tried to finish the fight and fought most of the time in a defensive fashion." -Tape Lord, Fightsport.com

"Tape Lord is correct" -Better Mouse Trap, Fightsport.com

"Im not sure what fight the "judges" were watching but Stevie Wonder could see that Vitor won two rounds of the fight and Tito only won one round. If a fighter wins 2 rounds of a 3 round fight he has won it, simple. Ortiz keeps his title as The Great Pretender of MMA." --Scoop McTroll, Fightsport.com

"29-28 for Belfort" -Josh Gross, Sherdog.com

"29-28 for Belfort in a very close fight." -Michael DiSanto, InsideFighting and huge supporter of unoffical Tito fan club

"Vitor won the fight by both KO and 29-28 decision". -Sam John Harkins, freelance journalist

"Belfort 29-28. Great fight, close fight. I gave Vitor Belfort the nod 29-28. I agree that the fight came down to how you scored the first round. Vitor was the agressor and he almost took out Tito in that first round. To Ortiz's credit he weathered the storm, but Vitor was the more aggressive fighter and control more of that first round than Tito did, thus I give it a 29-28 Belfort win." -Ken Pishna, MMA Weakly

"I scored it 29-28 Vitor Belfort. I don't have a major problem with how the official judges scored it. It was that close and watching the replay on tv compared to live in Vegas, it looked even closer than I first thought.

I think we all agree Tito won Round 3 and Vitor Round 2. So it comes down to Round 1. Depends how you judge Round 1. The fight was eerely similar to the Liddell 2nd round KO over Ortiz at the beginning as Vitor had a monster barrage that broke the nose of Tito Ortiz. Ortiz said “I was out for a second after an elbow.... Tito then said later that his nose was broke in the first round.

Ortiz played the position game very well in the first round, but the most effective scoring came from Belfort. My notes said "In a very close round I score it 10-9 because of the damage Tito sustained from the strikes. Tito finished the round strong for a minute and a half, but the first 3 minutes of the round were Vitor, thus 10-9." -Ryan Bennett, disgraced journalist from MMA Weakly

SHAMROCK VERBALLY HUMILIATES TITO

Below is a transcript of the exchange between Ken Shamrock and Tito Ortiz at the UFC 51 event on Saturday (transcript by Ted Johnson):

Tito: Ken Shamrock was talking some smack and I know that old man is in the house. Shamrock, step up! I'll make you remind myself that I am Rick James and you are my bitch!!!

Shamrock runs into the Octagon at this point. A few minutes after, he is taken out of the Octagon and is standing right outside it, and an interviewer asks for his comments:

Shamrock: All I hear him is talking, that's all I've heard him do so far, is run his mouth about how he's gonna' do this and how he's gonna' do that. All I hear is you talking! You want to fight me? I'm standing right here! I accept your challenge, what about you, do you accept my challenge? Say yes! I hear your mouth running but I don't hear yes! I don't hear a yes you punk! That's right, that's what I thought, you're a little punk 'cause you won't accept the fight!

I just challenged you! Say yes, right now! Better yet let you get your energy back so I can bust your nose again! Hey, all I got to say to Tito is don't back out of this one, step up! All I hear you talkin', I hear you talkin', but when it's time, I'm already signed, I'm already signed to fight! You ain't signed yet, but I hear you talking! Put the pen in your hand and sign the line punk! (Tito grabs a pen and mimmics signing a contract, then drops it) Oh hey, that was impressive but you're supposed to keep it in your hand and sign on the dotted line!

I know you didn't have much of an education but that's what you do with a pen, you don't throw it away! Sign the paper! (Tito is handed another pen) Are you gonna' throw that one too? You're supposed to write with it! Yeah, do I hear it? Hey by the time we get back on the website and you're talkin' all that trash I hope that you've signed already, cause all I hear you do is talkin', and that's the best thing you do!

Shawn Taylor Memorial Ceremony

Shawn's former martial arts instructor requested that we post the information for the memorial service for kickboxer, MMA fighter, and martial artist Shawn "Tornado" Taylor.

The service will be at Baby Makapu'u Beach (Cockroach Bay)
Sunday, February 13, 2005
1:00 PM

They will spread his ashes in the ocean. It is asked if the black belts could pay their respects to Shawn in their full martial arts attire one last time.

Hope to see you there.

Tito/Vitor Comments

The comments have started to come in. Here are a few...

"I agree that Vitor won the first 2 rounds. Although the first round was close, Vitor was the aggressor and should have been awarded the round. The 2nd round was very lopsided and Vitor again should have been given this round, The 3rd round should have been awarded to Tito due to Vitor running out of gas and basically hanging on to wait the round out. This just goes to show you that you need to go into a fight, especially with a BIG U.F.C. draw like Tito, and just knock him out. Don't let the refs get a shot to GIVE Tito a WIN and set up a big money fight for the U.F.C."

Jayson

"I thought Ortiz won when I watched it but I would like to see it
again to make sure. As of right now I think Tito won. Then again I did
drink more than a few Heinekens."

James

"rd 1 and 2 to vitor. rd 3 to tito. just because you’re the guy on top, doesn’t constitute a win. then again, if it were vanderlei on the bottom, I’m sure he would’ve been a shitload more active than vitor. vanderlei is going to kick tito’s ass."

Mark

A CHAMP ON HIS OWN TERMS

How surreal it must have been for Matt Lindland watching his ex-teammate win the UFC Middleweight Championship right before his eyes. It was Lindland that made David Terrell an overnight star when the former Olympian was knocked out by Terrell at UFC 49. Now just a few months later, Lindland saw his former team mate leaving one of the most respected teams in all of MMA, Team Quest, for a journey to the unknown to fight for a world title. Tanner, fighting for the first time under a brand new fight team, headed by new trainer Curtis Crawford won the UFC middleweight championship, something the great Lindland has not accomplished yet in his great career.

Tanner, a huge underdog AGAIN, just continues to win. You could say that Tanner is very similar to the Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots, especially right before they played Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts this year in the playoffs. Everybody loved Peyton Manning/David Terrell because of the weapons they had. Manning has Marvin Harrison, Terrell has knockout power. Manning has Edgerrin James, Terrell has slick submissions, but like Tom Brady and the Pats some guys just know how to win in the more pressure filled environment. Evan Tanner may not "wow" you with his speed or his stand up, he doesn’t yell "look at me" after another impressive victory. All he does is win fights and show heart. More importantly he knows how to finish fights and like the Super Bowl champs, all he does is just win. Maybe now he will get the respect he deserves.

Tanner has put himself in a position for many very interesting possibilities. Will he try to avenge his loss to Rick Franklin and fight him for the 185 pound title? Or will Tanner prefer to settle the score if you will. with former team mate Matt Lindland and fight him for the title?

Personally after talking to him after the fight, I believe he will focus on the rematch with Rick Franklin for a fight he felt was stopped too early. After watching him beat Phil Baroni twice, and escape from a choke and initial onslaught by David Terrell, Tanner could be right. He may have had the heart to come back and win the fight vs Franklin. I smell rematch and look for Tanner to either defend his title against Rick Franklin, or Matt Lindland in what could be the fight of the year in the 185 pounds weight class.

"DON'T FEAR ME, FEAR THE CONSEQUENCES"

Justin Eilers had to fear the consequnces when he decided to stand and trade with Paul Buentello. Buentello for years had bad luck with fighting in the UFC, whether it was a broken hand, an injury to his opponent of what have you, but after a long seven year wait, Buentello made a statement at UFC 51.

A very emotional Buentello took the pulpit at the UFC 51 press conference and talked about his long wait to fight in the big show. Buentello “It was a very long wait to fulfil my dream as a fighter” Buentello told MMAWeekly.com

“I had to leave my wife and child back in Texas so I could work out with the guys in San Jose California and A.K.A. (American Kickboxing Academy) My entire goal was to fight in the UFC and now I accomplished that. It still feels like a dream” Buentello said.

The dream was a nightmare for Eilers who chose to stand and bang with Buentello. It was a tough night for the Miletich Fighting Systems as not only was Eilers knocked out in the first round, but his teammate Tim Sylvia was submitted in just :47 seconds. “You win some you lose some, that’s the fight game.....but I do know this. Eilers and Sylvia will be back they are too good to not come back. I guarantee that” Jens Pulver who cornered both fighters told MMAWeekly after the fight.

In the meantime, Buentello has now put himself on the UFC Heavyweight map. There was a lot of hype entering this fight about how good Buentello’s hands were and Buentello’s hands did live up to the hype. The tough Texan has now lived the dream of winning in his first UFC and it will be interesting to see if this is just the beginning for one of the better feel good stories of this past weekend.

END OF AN ERA

It was pretty ironic that this past week, Fox Sports Network showed Phil Baroni at his best on national tv. FSN showed a fight from two years ago, when an aggressive Phil Baroni whacked former champion Dave Menne with a machine gun like barrage with fists of fury, as fans were treated to some of the fastest hands seen in MMA. So can anyone tell me who the impersonator was fighting Pete “Drago” Sell on Saturday night?

The guy claiming to be Phil Baroni this weekend, was a fighter, who fought himself more than his opponent. Baroni was content to throw just one punch at a time, never following up with anything resembling a combination, as Baroni never set up any of his punches with a jab in the fight. Hard to believe that we never saw a combination from the former New York Bad Ass.

The Phil Baroni we saw this weekend had much slower hands and seemed content to look for a one punch knockout. It looked as though Baroni’s motor skills over time have deteriated as he looked like an old slow fighter. The longer the fight lasted, the shorter his chance to win became.
What we saw at the Mandalay Bay on Saturday, was a fighter who was battling himself mentally. When he didn’t get the early KO, Baroni didn’t know if he still had what it took to get back in the fight. Credit Pete Sell for taking the fight to Baroni and showing that he is a legit tough guy. The facts though show that the young man referred to as “Drago”, not only took this fight on short notice, but this young man had just five fights, count them, five and the 22 year old self admittedly said “I have holes in my game but I will get better”. This fight was taylor made for Baroni to have a Menne like type performance and he couldn’t pull the trigger.

You can’t teach heart and that’s what Drago has, while Baroni some how has lost it. It’s hard to believe that the Phil Baroni that beat Amar Suloev and Dave Menne, who battled Matt Lindland in two great fights and who was this close to defeating Evan Tanner in their first fight..... could lose to a young kid with not much MMA expierence at UFC 51.

This Phil Baroni has just fought his last fight in the UFC and maybe in MMA. It a bizarre sort of way, it’s only appropriate for a guy’s UFC career to end as suddenly as his own temprement, which was always unpredictable, always controversial and often disappointing.

SPLIT DECISION WITH MEDIA AS WELL

Did Tito Ortiz really win the fight this weekend at UFC 51? Depends who you ask. The judges had a tough time scoring the main event on Saturday night. The judges saw it 29-28, which broke it down two rounds for Ortiz and one round for Belfort. Our staff at MMAWeekly.com was just as split.

MMAWeekly Radio’s Ryan Bennett - "I scored it 29-28 Vitor Belfort. I don’t have a major problem with how the official judges scored it.

Ortiz said “I was out for a second after an elbow....” Tito then said later that his nose was broke in the first round.

Ortiz played the position game very well in the first round, but the most effective scoring came from Belfort. My notes said “In a very close round I score it 10-9 because of the damage Tito sustained from the strikes. Tito finished the round strong for a minute and a half, but the first 3 minutes of the round were Vitor, thus 10-9.”

MMAWeekly Radio’s Frank Trigg - Ortiz 29-28. My partner is retarded. Wouldn’t be the first time however. (Actually he’s smarter than me, I’ve been kicked in the head too many times), but Bennett is wrong and this is why. Ortiz pushed the pace in this fight, he had way too many take downs and you have to score take downs, just like any punch that lands. Tito dominated the third round and did enough in that first round to steal that round as well. Ortiz wins it 2 rounds to 1 and wins the fight 29-28.

MMAWeekly.com’s Ken Pishna - Belfort 29-28. Great fight, close fight. I gave Vitor Belfort the nod 29-28. I agree that the fight came down to how you scored the first round. Vitor was the agressor and he almost took out Tito in that first round. To Ortiz’s credit he weathered the storm, but Vitor was the more aggressive fighter and control more of that first round than Tito did, thus I give it a 29-28 Belfort win.

Talking after with a few other journalists, Josh Gross from Sherdog had it 29-28 for Belfort as did Michael DiSanto from Inside Fighting who had it 29-28 for Belfort in a very close fight.

WILL TITO OR VITOR BE RE-SIGNED?

It was at one time the flagship division for the UFC, but now it could be as bare as the 185 division was 18 months ago. Tito Ortiz AND Vitor Belfort are both free agents and it’s unclear of the UFC will sign either fighter.

Dana White in a press conference yesterday said it was unclear if they would sign either fighter. “We haven’t heard much from Vitor Belfort this entire time...” the UFC President said. White alluded to the fact that Belfort’s camp was very quiet and hinted that neither side met and there was no plans to meet in the immediate future.

Ortiz made it clear that he is a free agent and it’s unclear what his future holds. Just 24 hours before the main event, Ortiz talked exclusively one on one with MMAWeekly’s Ryan Bennett at the weigh-in and made it clear that he was a free agent and he would sit back and listen to anything and everything. (Watch the interview right now at MMAWeekly TV). The UFC’s has a very interesting decision to be made. Ortiz is still clearly a draw and it’s amazing to see how much the crowd enjoys booing him these days. He has gone from the good guy to the villian almost over night it seems.

Ortiz is still a draw. On fight cards where Ortiz main event’s shows he has sold out his last five apperances. (Editor’s note - some people have emailed saying it was Belfort carrying this match as well...remember Belfort vs Couture did not sell out). There are still a couple fights left for Ortiz. After the hoopla after the fight when Chuck Liddell and Ken Shamrock both entered the Octagon and challenged Ortiz, Tito said he would fight Shamrock. Once again the rumor is that Ortiz has asked for too much money, thus the Shamrock fight would never happen. (This is according to KenShamrock.com)

It was interesting to note at the press conference that Ortiz back tracked calling out Liddell in the Octagon, telling the media he shouldn’t have disrespected Chuck that way and would welcome putting another beating on Ken Shamrock.

Either way it’s clear that Tito Ortiz would be the more desirable free agent, for the simple fact that he is a bigger draw at the gate and that Belfort now has lost to Liddell, Couture and Ortiz.

UFC 52 CARD

The UFC announced their full card for UFC 52, which is scheduled for April 16th:

Randy Couture vs. Chuck Liddell
Matt Hughes vs. Frank Trigg
Matt Lindland vs. Travis Lutter
Georges St. Pierre vs. Jason Miller
Lee Murray vs. Patrick Cote
Mike Van Arsdale vs. John Marsh
Renato 'Babalu' Sobral vs. Travis Wiuff
Trevor Prangley vs. Ivan Salaverry

MMA MEDIA: 'BELFORT WAS ROBBED!!'

After watching the first round again, I would have scored it for Vitor as well. The writer below was correct about the duration of domination. Vitor won that and the only other criteria was Belfort's 2-3 good shots standing vs. Ortiz's 2-3 good elbows on the ground, along with the takedown. Neither fighter was visibly hurt considerably with those shots. That was a very tough round to call. I do think that the fight probably would have been stopped if it was a championship fight and went to a fourth round because Vitor was gassed, but that should have nothing to do with the 3 round decision. I do like the fact that the judges judged and made a decision instead of going the easy route of a draw.

Mike

MMA journalist Ricardo Alonso was live ringside at UFC 51 and gave the following first-hand account of the Vitor Belfort vs. Tito Ortiz matchup:

"Where to start... Vitor Belfort was robbed!! This now makes the second time Vitor has been robbed by the judges in the "new" UFC.

The UFC is supposed to go by who wins the most rounds. So let me break down who won which round...

ROUND 1: It is clear to see that Vitor won round one very convincingly, controlling the fight and stunning Tito for at least 3 1/2 minutes of the first round. Tito only spent 90 seconds on top and did minimal damage.

ROUND 2: It's is very clear again to see that Vitor won round two very convincingly. Vitor came close to finishing this fight in round teo, and was pummeling Tito, with Tito doing nothing but covering up like a bitch!

ROUND 3: This round went to Tito, only because Vitor was already gassed from beating the living hell out of Tito and dominating him for the first two rounds.

So, when we look at the facts, Vitor wins this fight by two rounds to one! Vitor wins this fight 29-28 on the scorecards of anyone who has teo eyes and knows NHB/MMA. Vitor deserved to win this decision."

CAGE WARRIORS UK ATTACKS DANA WHITE

The president of the UK-based 'Cage Warriors' promotion, Dougie Truman, made the following statement regarding the decision of Zuffa to pursue legal action against what they perceive as a 'breach of trademark':

"I was today shocked and stunned when I received a security sealed envelope by US express mail, from a firm of solicitors in America representing Zuffa/ UFC. They are threatening me with court action over their "alleged" breach of trade mark issues, I have until 15th of February to comply or face legal proceedings.

To some of you this will mean absolutely nothing, but to those of us who have worked hard to build MMA in the UK & to push the boundaries of awareness to the masses, not just of our own personal organisations and events but to each others and the general overview of MMA Globally, then this is a big kick in the teeth.

Cagewarriors and our staff/supporters have relentlessly pushed and promoted for greater awareness of this sport, we even invited Sean O'Hara from Setanta Sports to our Newcastle event in 2003 at our own expense and talked him into showing the UFC pay per view, despite their initial reluctance. We also produced flyers and distributed them throughout the UK to help promote the UFC PPV event that was shown on Setanta Sports. We did this in order to help the UFC's presence here in the UK. Now we find the UFC doing this to us when all we have ever wanted to do is help promote the UFC and MMA in our country.

Dana White you are seriously out of touch as to what we are trying to achieve here in the UK, unlike in American we here in the UK work "together" and we "support" each other and have "solidarity" where as you obviously do not and prefer to push your weight around and generally bully the little guy.

I once stupidly thought that if we all worked as hard here in the UK as you guys have in the USA, you would recognise the growth of the UK scene and support it as we have yours. I also thought that as fellow promoters of the same sport, we could communicate personally and build a bigger global presence for the sport and share ideas that would eventually be of mutual benefit. However these hopes were dashed when I received an e-mail from a member of staff at your office a little over a year ago requesting that we remove all UFC e-mail addresses and to stop e-mailing you. This is why I am now issuing my response publicly, as you have shown me little regard or respect by sending me a solicitors letter, when you could have resolved this matter with a simple polite e-mail or letter.

So here I go. Dana White with the greatest of respect stop whining like a biatch and grow a pair of balls like your President and do it, don't mince about like a fairy with your pathetic attempts to threaten me, get your big fat cheque book out and pay a decent firm of solicitors and go for it. See you in court big boy!

Regards Dougie"

YVES EDWARDS EXPOSES UFC REALITY SHOW

Yves Edwards

Yves Edwards made the following comments regarding The Ultimate Fighter' reality show and its special effects gimmicks:

"I just watched the replay of TUF, and I don't know if anyone has pointed this out already or if anyone even noticed it, but on the Southworth/Kincaid fight they used sound effects for the strikes that landed. I thought I was imagining things at the end of the first round when I noticed it, but sure enough when Bobby got the knock out there it was sound effects to go along with the finishing combo. The effects were only during the actual fight not during the replay. This infusion of fake sounds can only be "bad for the sport" when some colon gnome sees it and says "that stuff is fake. See they use sound effects." Oh well cest le vive."

UFC 52: COUTURE VS. LIDDELL 2, APRIL 16

Tickets Go On Sale at Noon, Sunday, Feb. 6, For 8-Fight, All-Star Card at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas

They compete against each other as coaches every week for Team Couture and Team Liddell in the new, exciting The Ultimate Fighter?r reality show on Spike TV. Now, Ultimate Fighting Championship? Light Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture and number one contender Chuck Liddell will clash for the UFC World Light Heavyweight Championship in the main event of UFC 52: Couture vs. Liddell 2, Saturday, April 16, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Tickets priced at $400, $300, $200, $100 and $50, for the all-star, eight-fight card go on sale at Noon, Sunday, Feb. 6, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena box office, all Ticketmaster locations, www.ticketmaster.com, www.mgmgrand.com and by telephone at 800-929-1111 or 702-891-7777. Ticket purchases are subject to transaction fees. UFC 52: Couture vs. Liddell 2 also will be available LIVE on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. EDT on iNDemand, DirecTV, Dish Network, TVN, Echostar, Bell ExpressVu and Viewers Choice Canada. The suggested retail price is $34.95.
Team coaching aside, the Couture-Liddell rematch has been brewing for almost two years since the then 40-year-old Couture, “The Natural” from Portland, Ore., made a dramatic impact on the light heavyweight division with a third-round technical knockout of “The Iceman” Liddell to win the UFC interim light heavyweight title at UFC 43: Meltdown.

Couture, the former two-time UFC heavyweight champ (13-6-0 in mixed martial arts), followed with a rampage through the light heavyweight division, defeating Tito Ortiz for the undisputed title with a dominating, five-round unanimous decision Sept. 26, 2003; losing the belt to Vitor Belfort on January 31, 2004 due to a glancing left hook that opened a cut over his left eye only 48 seconds into the fight, then winning it back from Belfort with another dominating ground and pound performance Aug. 21, 2004. Couture is the only fighter in UFC history to win titles twice in two different weight divisions.

Liddell (14-3-0) from San Luis Obispo, Calif., didn’t allow the loss to Couture to affect his game. He rebounded April 2, 2004 with a powerful second-round knockout of Ortiz to get back into the light heavyweight title picture and followed it with a first-round knockout of Vernon “Tiger” White on the same Couture-Belfort card in August.

“It’s going to be very different this time,” Liddell predicts. “I’m going to win by a knockout and be the light heavyweight champ.”

But Couture is just as adamant. “This fight will end just like the last one. At the end of the night, I’m still going home with the belt,” he said.

Both fighters now have the opportunity to claim the light heavyweight belt just one week after the conclusion of Team Liddell vs. Team Couture Saturday, April 9 on The Ultimate Fighter on Spike TV. The remaining all-star bouts on the UFC 52: Couture vs. Liddell 2 card will be announced in the near future.

The Ultimate Fighter, which premiered last month continues to wow audiences each Monday at 11 p.m. EST/PST on Spike TV. Viewers can follow the remaining 13 fighters each Monday night for nine more episodes as they train, work out and live together before the final show on Saturday, April 9. At the end of each week, one fighter from each of the two teams must fight in the Octagon to avoid being kicked out of the UFC training center until only two remain in each of two weight divisions. In the end, The Ultimate Fighter will be determined by a live competition match – a head-to-head fight to the finish in the Octagon.

Mike Tyson begins training in Gifford

The former heavyweight champion has begun training at a world-renowned facility in Gifford.
By Kevin Van Brimmer

VERO BEACH — Three weeks after telling the New York Post he may never box again, Mike Tyson is back in training in Vero Beach.

World-class trainer Buddy McGirt confirmed Thursday the former heavyweight champion had moved to town and began workouts at McGirt's Elite Boxing facility in Gifford.

"Mike is in town and he's training to get back in shape," McGirt said.

Tyson could not be reached for comment.

McGirt said he did not know if Tyson had a bout scheduled. Tyson was rumored to have a fight scheduled for March, but that timetable does not appear feasible and McGirt said he expected Tyson to be in Vero Beach "for a couple of months."

Tyson, 38, registered as a sex offender with the Indian River County Sheriff's Office on Monday, which he is required to do after being convicted in February 1992 for the 1991 rape of Desiree Washington in Indianapolis.

Washington, an 18-year-old contestant in the 1991 Miss Black America contest, said Tyson forced her to have intercourse with him in his hotel room on July 19, 1991.

Tyson served three years in prison.

"Mike registered (with the Sheriff's Office) earlier this week. He knows he has to do it," McGirt said. "He reminded everyone that he had to. He wanted to get it out of the way before he started training."

Tyson's registration form listed an address in the 1800 block of State Road A1A in the Riomar area, and the Sheriff's Office planned to visit the location and confirm the address Thursday night, said Detective Thom Raulens.

The information will get forwarded to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, which will list him on its Web site of registered sex offenders.

The Sheriff's Office will include Tyson's photo, address and offender status on a scrolling list of registered sex offenders and predators that airs on a government cable TV channel in Indian River County, Raulens said.

Tyson has a professional boxing record of 50-5 with two no-contests and 44 knockouts. He was knocked out in the fourth round by unheralded Englishman Danny Williams in his last bout, on July 30, 2004, in Louisville, Ky.

In 1986, Tyson became the youngest heavyweight champion in history when, at age 20, he knocked out Trevor Berbick to win the WBC belt.

His career continued to rise from there and he held all three major heavyweight titles — the WBC, IBF and WBA — at one time to become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.

In 1990, James "Buster" Douglas shocked the world by knocking Tyson out in Tokyo.

In recent years, Tyson has run into trouble both inside and outside the ring. He has been charged with assault, bit the ear of opponent Evander Holyfield during a bout and later threatened to eat the children of British boxer Lennox Lewis. Lewis does not have children. Tyson filed for bankruptcy in 2003.

PUNISHMENT IN PARADISE
NEWS ALERT!!

Brynes Suspended!!!

On behalf of P.I.P. Steve Brynes will be suspended from fighting in Punishment In Paradise for 6 Months. Meaning he will not be asked to participate in our show. Mr. Brynes management pulled him out because Steve had a motorcycle accident and his ankle was messed up. Mr Brynes left Eastsidaz Kimo Wolfel with out an opponent for Jan 22, 2005. Our descion was made after seeing Brynes fight in Full Contact Showdown a week later.

Fighters who pull out for no reason or fighters who pull out for a injury and participates in another event a week later will be suspended from Punishment In Paradise action.

REASON being that their opponents are trainning hard and making sacrfices and to have their opponent drop out is UNCALLED for. And second it screws the show up and starts making any promotion look unorganized.

Statemant from Brennan Kamaka

I'm sick and tired of these fighters doing this not just to the show but to the other fighter that trains hard and not having a fight. I have talked to other promoters and they feel the same way and will not use the fighters that do these things. The few promoters in Hawaii will stand by eachother and work together in stopping these actions. I even got the word of one of Hawaii's bigest promotions (which name I won't mention) that they will stand by us and do the same.
Every pull out must have a certified doctors note and a contact name and number to be reached.

I realy didn't want to make the amatuer fighters signed contracts of commitment with a clause that a pull out with out reason will cause a fine but now they leave me no choice.

To all teams and fighters who stood by P.I.P we really apperciate your support and promise in 2005 you will see a better P.I.P

Arlovski Hoping to Topple “Giant” Sylvia
by Mike Sloan

If you can actually believe it, there is another fight this Saturday night during the UFC 51 event besides Ortiz-Belfort. Sure, the light heavyweight glamour boys have soaked up all of the limelight, but the chief under card bout of the evening could wind up being one of the most talked about fights in quite some time. Forget Ortiz-Belfort, forget Tanner-Terrell and forget New England-Philadelphia.
