UFC 52 TICKETS ON SALE,
CARD LOOKS GREAT AS WELL

Tickets have went on sale for UFC 52 this weekend in Las Vegas. The show will feature a second meeting between Randy Couture and Chuck Liddell at the MGM Grand on April 16th.

At the post-fight press conference for UFC 51, Dana White announced the entire line-up for UFC 52. UFC 52 will take place on Saturday, April 16th on pay-per-view with the following eight fights:

-Randy Couture vs. Chuck Liddell

-Matt Hughes vs. Frank Trigg

-Matt Lindland vs. Travis Lutter

-Georges St. Pierre vs. Jason Miller

-Lee Murray vs. Patrick Cote

-Trevor Prangley vs. Ivan Salaverry

-Renato "Babalu" Sobral vs. Travis Wiuff

-Mike Van Arsdale vs. John Marsh

Other notes:

-The April 9th live special on Spike TV will feature the light-heavyweight finals and middleweight finals from the reality show, and "another UFC fight," as Dana White put it. That wording would seem to imply "one more fight," and it is believed that it COULD be Ken Shamrock vs. Rich Franklin at 205 pounds (though White didn't say that at the post-fight press conference).

-When asked about the possibility of a fight between Evan Tanner and Matt Lindland, Dana White said that it's a strong possibility, and that Lindland would probably get a title shot if he wins one more UFC fight.

-When asked if he expects Frank Mir to fight on the UFC card in Japan later this year, White said that UFC Japan is in June, and he doesn't expect Frank Mir to be recovered in time to fight on the June card due to the severity of his injuries.

More info on UFC 52 card:

-Regarding the possibility of Ken Shamrock vs. Rich Franklin taking place on the April 9th live special on Spike TV, you have to understand that Ken Shamrock vs. anyone is marketable and is a big ratings draw. Franklin was always a good light-heavyweight (he was actually 14-1 as a light-heavyweight); he just felt that he could be dominant at middleweight. If the fight actually comes off, Franklin will have moved up to 205 because it would be well worth the risk for the potential benefit of name recognition for beating Ken Shamrock on national free television.

-There is no truth whatsoever to rumors of Frank Shamrock fighting Rich Franklin, or anyone else, in a future UFC fight. Also, Tito Ortiz is not fighting in April anywhere.

-There have been a lot of questions about the weight classes for specific fights, so we're going to go through that right now along with other info about the line-up.

-The top two fights are obviously Couture vs. Liddell for the Light-Heavyweight Title, and Hughes vs. Trigg for the Welterweight Title.

-Matt Lindland vs. Travis Lutter will be a middleweight fight. Lindland has won four of his last five fights overall, but his most recent UFC fight was a one-punch knockout at the hands of David Terrell. This will be Lutter's first fight since he made his UFC debut by knocking out Marvin Eastman back in October.

-Georges St. Pierre vs. Jason Miller will be a welterweight fight. St. Pierre suffered the first loss of his career when he was submitted by Matt Hughes back at UFC 50 in October, but he has since bounced back with a submission victory over Dave Strasser in Canada. Twenty-four year-old Jason Miller will be making his UFC debut and fighting for the first time since he submitted Ronald Jhun at a SuperBrawl event last October.

-Lee Murray vs. Patrick Cote will be a middleweight fight. Cote had previously announced that he was moving down from light-heavyweight to middleweight, and that is where this fight will be contested (Murray is not moving up to 205 at this time). It was interesting to hear Dana White announce this fight since not too long ago the line on Lee Murray was that he still couldn't leave England due to legal issues. For this fight to have been signed and announced, Murray must have worked out his legal problems, or at least worked them out enough that he will be able to leave England by April. Murray has not been very active since his UFC debut, a win over Jorge Rivera in January 2004. Since then, Murray has only fought one time, a unanimous decision loss to Anderson Silva in England.

-Trevor Prangley vs. Ivan Salaverry will be a middleweight fight. This fight was tentatively scheduled to take place at UFC 50 back in October, but Prangley had to pull out due to injury and was replaced in the fight by Tony Fryklund. Salaverry went on to beat Fryklund by submission to improve his UFC record to 2-1 (while Fryklund has since moved down to welterweight). For Prangley, this will be the first time he has fought since last June, when he was victorious in his UFC debut against Curtis Stout.

-Renato "Babalu" Sobral vs. Travis Wiuff will be a light-heavyweight fight. After spending his career fighting between 230 and 280 pounds, Wiuff will now be cutting down to 205, much to the shock of a lot of people (including me). Wiuff only had one shot in the UFC the last time around, losing to Vladimir Matyushenko back at UFC 40, and has been very active with a 21-1 record since that fight. Sobral's last UFC fight was also at UFC 40, where he was knocked out by Chuck Liddell. Since then, Sobral has won six fights in a row to earn his way back into the UFC, including a memorable IFC tournament in 2003 in which he defeated Trevor Prangley, Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, and Jeremy Horn on the same night.

-John Marsh vs. Mike Van Arsdale is likely to be a heavyweight fight. This is not official and it could very well end up being fought at light-heavyweight, but this fight is more than likely going to take place at heavyweight. Both Marsh and Van Arsdale were recently scheduled to have heavyweight fights in the UFC, but had to pull out due to injuries suffered in training. Marsh has fought between 220 and 230 pounds in his career, while Van Arsdale had been anywhere from 205 to 220. Marsh had gone for almost four years without fighting before making his comeback in May 2004, winning a unanimous decision against Wes "Cabbage" Correira in Hawaii. The 39-year-old Van Arsdale has been much more active in submission grappling competition than he has been in MMA, and this will be his first UFC fight since UFC 17.

MMA MEDIA WILL TRY TO PETITION NSAC TO OVERTURN SUPPOSEDLY BIASED BELFORT-ORTIZ DECISION

Prominent members of the MMA Media will try to petition the Nevada State Athletic Commission to overturn the supposedly biased and controversial judges decision in the Vitor Belfort vs. Tito Ortiz fight.

Many true media and fans of NHB/MMA feel now is the time to make a stand against judges decision that seem either inept, biased, and/or corrupt. The MMA media ask for all the loyal fans of NHB/MMA who thought Vitor Belfort won the fight to do the same by contacting the Nevada State Athletic Commission and letting them know how you feel.

Nevada Department of Business & Industry
Nevada Athletic Commission
555 E. Washington Avenue, Ste 3200
Las Vegas, NV 89101
PHONE (702)486-2575
FAX (702)486-2577

Here are some quotes from MMA media and fans regarding the fight:

"Vitor clearly won that fight by a score of 29-28, and always went for the finish, whereas Tito never really tried to finish the fight and fought most of the time in a defensive fashion." -Tape Lord, Fightsport.com

"Tape Lord is correct" -Better Mouse Trap, Fightsport.com

"Im not sure what fight the "judges" were watching but Stevie Wonder could see that Vitor won two rounds of the fight and Tito only won one round. If a fighter wins 2 rounds of a 3 round fight he has won it, simple. Ortiz keeps his title as The Great Pretender of MMA." --Scoop McTroll, Fightsport.com

"29-28 for Belfort" -Josh Gross, Sherdog.com

"29-28 for Belfort in a very close fight." -Michael DiSanto, InsideFighting and huge supporter of unoffical Tito fan club

"Vitor won the fight by both KO and 29-28 decision". -Sam John Harkins, freelance journalist

"Belfort 29-28. Great fight, close fight. I gave Vitor Belfort the nod 29-28. I agree that the fight came down to how you scored the first round. Vitor was the agressor and he almost took out Tito in that first round. To Ortiz's credit he weathered the storm, but Vitor was the more aggressive fighter and control more of that first round than Tito did, thus I give it a 29-28 Belfort win." -Ken Pishna, MMA Weakly

"I scored it 29-28 Vitor Belfort. I don't have a major problem with how the official judges scored it. It was that close and watching the replay on tv compared to live in Vegas, it looked even closer than I first thought.

I think we all agree Tito won Round 3 and Vitor Round 2. So it comes down to Round 1. Depends how you judge Round 1. The fight was eerely similar to the Liddell 2nd round KO over Ortiz at the beginning as Vitor had a monster barrage that broke the nose of Tito Ortiz. Ortiz said “I was out for a second after an elbow.... Tito then said later that his nose was broke in the first round.

Ortiz played the position game very well in the first round, but the most effective scoring came from Belfort. My notes said "In a very close round I score it 10-9 because of the damage Tito sustained from the strikes. Tito finished the round strong for a minute and a half, but the first 3 minutes of the round were Vitor, thus 10-9." -Ryan Bennett, disgraced journalist from MMA Weakly

SHAMROCK VERBALLY HUMILIATES TITO

Below is a transcript of the exchange between Ken Shamrock and Tito Ortiz at the UFC 51 event on Saturday (transcript by Ted Johnson):

Tito: Ken Shamrock was talking some smack and I know that old man is in the house. Shamrock, step up! I'll make you remind myself that I am Rick James and you are my bitch!!!

Shamrock runs into the Octagon at this point. A few minutes after, he is taken out of the Octagon and is standing right outside it, and an interviewer asks for his comments:

Shamrock: All I hear him is talking, that's all I've heard him do so far, is run his mouth about how he's gonna' do this and how he's gonna' do that. All I hear is you talking! You want to fight me? I'm standing right here! I accept your challenge, what about you, do you accept my challenge? Say yes! I hear your mouth running but I don't hear yes! I don't hear a yes you punk! That's right, that's what I thought, you're a little punk 'cause you won't accept the fight!

I just challenged you! Say yes, right now! Better yet let you get your energy back so I can bust your nose again! Hey, all I got to say to Tito is don't back out of this one, step up! All I hear you talkin', I hear you talkin', but when it's time, I'm already signed, I'm already signed to fight! You ain't signed yet, but I hear you talking! Put the pen in your hand and sign the line punk! (Tito grabs a pen and mimmics signing a contract, then drops it) Oh hey, that was impressive but you're supposed to keep it in your hand and sign on the dotted line!

I know you didn't have much of an education but that's what you do with a pen, you don't throw it away! Sign the paper! (Tito is handed another pen) Are you gonna' throw that one too? You're supposed to write with it! Yeah, do I hear it? Hey by the time we get back on the website and you're talkin' all that trash I hope that you've signed already, cause all I hear you do is talkin', and that's the best thing you do!

Shawn Taylor Memorial Ceremony

Shawn's former martial arts instructor requested that we post the information for the memorial service for kickboxer, MMA fighter, and martial artist Shawn "Tornado" Taylor.

The service will be at Baby Makapu'u Beach (Cockroach Bay)
Sunday, February 13, 2005
1:00 PM

They will spread his ashes in the ocean. It is asked if the black belts could pay their respects to Shawn in their full martial arts attire one last time.

Hope to see you there.

Tito/Vitor Comments

The comments have started to come in. Here are a few...

"I agree that Vitor won the first 2 rounds. Although the first round was close, Vitor was the aggressor and should have been awarded the round. The 2nd round was very lopsided and Vitor again should have been given this round, The 3rd round should have been awarded to Tito due to Vitor running out of gas and basically hanging on to wait the round out. This just goes to show you that you need to go into a fight, especially with a BIG U.F.C. draw like Tito, and just knock him out. Don't let the refs get a shot to GIVE Tito a WIN and set up a big money fight for the U.F.C."

Jayson

"I thought Ortiz won when I watched it but I would like to see it
again to make sure. As of right now I think Tito won. Then again I did
drink more than a few Heinekens."

James

"rd 1 and 2 to vitor. rd 3 to tito. just because you’re the guy on top, doesn’t constitute a win. then again, if it were vanderlei on the bottom, I’m sure he would’ve been a shitload more active than vitor. vanderlei is going to kick tito’s ass."

Mark

A CHAMP ON HIS OWN TERMS

How surreal it must have been for Matt Lindland watching his ex-teammate win the UFC Middleweight Championship right before his eyes. It was Lindland that made David Terrell an overnight star when the former Olympian was knocked out by Terrell at UFC 49. Now just a few months later, Lindland saw his former team mate leaving one of the most respected teams in all of MMA, Team Quest, for a journey to the unknown to fight for a world title. Tanner, fighting for the first time under a brand new fight team, headed by new trainer Curtis Crawford won the UFC middleweight championship, something the great Lindland has not accomplished yet in his great career.

Tanner, a huge underdog AGAIN, just continues to win. You could say that Tanner is very similar to the Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots, especially right before they played Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts this year in the playoffs. Everybody loved Peyton Manning/David Terrell because of the weapons they had. Manning has Marvin Harrison, Terrell has knockout power. Manning has Edgerrin James, Terrell has slick submissions, but like Tom Brady and the Pats some guys just know how to win in the more pressure filled environment. Evan Tanner may not "wow" you with his speed or his stand up, he doesn’t yell "look at me" after another impressive victory. All he does is win fights and show heart. More importantly he knows how to finish fights and like the Super Bowl champs, all he does is just win. Maybe now he will get the respect he deserves.

Tanner has put himself in a position for many very interesting possibilities. Will he try to avenge his loss to Rick Franklin and fight him for the 185 pound title? Or will Tanner prefer to settle the score if you will. with former team mate Matt Lindland and fight him for the title?

Personally after talking to him after the fight, I believe he will focus on the rematch with Rick Franklin for a fight he felt was stopped too early. After watching him beat Phil Baroni twice, and escape from a choke and initial onslaught by David Terrell, Tanner could be right. He may have had the heart to come back and win the fight vs Franklin. I smell rematch and look for Tanner to either defend his title against Rick Franklin, or Matt Lindland in what could be the fight of the year in the 185 pounds weight class.

"DON'T FEAR ME, FEAR THE CONSEQUENCES"

Justin Eilers had to fear the consequnces when he decided to stand and trade with Paul Buentello. Buentello for years had bad luck with fighting in the UFC, whether it was a broken hand, an injury to his opponent of what have you, but after a long seven year wait, Buentello made a statement at UFC 51.

A very emotional Buentello took the pulpit at the UFC 51 press conference and talked about his long wait to fight in the big show. Buentello “It was a very long wait to fulfil my dream as a fighter” Buentello told MMAWeekly.com

“I had to leave my wife and child back in Texas so I could work out with the guys in San Jose California and A.K.A. (American Kickboxing Academy) My entire goal was to fight in the UFC and now I accomplished that. It still feels like a dream” Buentello said.

The dream was a nightmare for Eilers who chose to stand and bang with Buentello. It was a tough night for the Miletich Fighting Systems as not only was Eilers knocked out in the first round, but his teammate Tim Sylvia was submitted in just :47 seconds. “You win some you lose some, that’s the fight game.....but I do know this. Eilers and Sylvia will be back they are too good to not come back. I guarantee that” Jens Pulver who cornered both fighters told MMAWeekly after the fight.

In the meantime, Buentello has now put himself on the UFC Heavyweight map. There was a lot of hype entering this fight about how good Buentello’s hands were and Buentello’s hands did live up to the hype. The tough Texan has now lived the dream of winning in his first UFC and it will be interesting to see if this is just the beginning for one of the better feel good stories of this past weekend.

END OF AN ERA

It was pretty ironic that this past week, Fox Sports Network showed Phil Baroni at his best on national tv. FSN showed a fight from two years ago, when an aggressive Phil Baroni whacked former champion Dave Menne with a machine gun like barrage with fists of fury, as fans were treated to some of the fastest hands seen in MMA. So can anyone tell me who the impersonator was fighting Pete “Drago” Sell on Saturday night?

The guy claiming to be Phil Baroni this weekend, was a fighter, who fought himself more than his opponent. Baroni was content to throw just one punch at a time, never following up with anything resembling a combination, as Baroni never set up any of his punches with a jab in the fight. Hard to believe that we never saw a combination from the former New York Bad Ass.

The Phil Baroni we saw this weekend had much slower hands and seemed content to look for a one punch knockout. It looked as though Baroni’s motor skills over time have deteriated as he looked like an old slow fighter. The longer the fight lasted, the shorter his chance to win became.
What we saw at the Mandalay Bay on Saturday, was a fighter who was battling himself mentally. When he didn’t get the early KO, Baroni didn’t know if he still had what it took to get back in the fight. Credit Pete Sell for taking the fight to Baroni and showing that he is a legit tough guy. The facts though show that the young man referred to as “Drago”, not only took this fight on short notice, but this young man had just five fights, count them, five and the 22 year old self admittedly said “I have holes in my game but I will get better”. This fight was taylor made for Baroni to have a Menne like type performance and he couldn’t pull the trigger.

You can’t teach heart and that’s what Drago has, while Baroni some how has lost it. It’s hard to believe that the Phil Baroni that beat Amar Suloev and Dave Menne, who battled Matt Lindland in two great fights and who was this close to defeating Evan Tanner in their first fight..... could lose to a young kid with not much MMA expierence at UFC 51.

This Phil Baroni has just fought his last fight in the UFC and maybe in MMA. It a bizarre sort of way, it’s only appropriate for a guy’s UFC career to end as suddenly as his own temprement, which was always unpredictable, always controversial and often disappointing.

SPLIT DECISION WITH MEDIA AS WELL

Did Tito Ortiz really win the fight this weekend at UFC 51? Depends who you ask. The judges had a tough time scoring the main event on Saturday night. The judges saw it 29-28, which broke it down two rounds for Ortiz and one round for Belfort. Our staff at MMAWeekly.com was just as split.

MMAWeekly Radio’s Ryan Bennett - "I scored it 29-28 Vitor Belfort. I don’t have a major problem with how the official judges scored it.

Ortiz said “I was out for a second after an elbow....” Tito then said later that his nose was broke in the first round.

Ortiz played the position game very well in the first round, but the most effective scoring came from Belfort. My notes said “In a very close round I score it 10-9 because of the damage Tito sustained from the strikes. Tito finished the round strong for a minute and a half, but the first 3 minutes of the round were Vitor, thus 10-9.”

MMAWeekly Radio’s Frank Trigg - Ortiz 29-28. My partner is retarded. Wouldn’t be the first time however. (Actually he’s smarter than me, I’ve been kicked in the head too many times), but Bennett is wrong and this is why. Ortiz pushed the pace in this fight, he had way too many take downs and you have to score take downs, just like any punch that lands. Tito dominated the third round and did enough in that first round to steal that round as well. Ortiz wins it 2 rounds to 1 and wins the fight 29-28.

MMAWeekly.com’s Ken Pishna - Belfort 29-28. Great fight, close fight. I gave Vitor Belfort the nod 29-28. I agree that the fight came down to how you scored the first round. Vitor was the agressor and he almost took out Tito in that first round. To Ortiz’s credit he weathered the storm, but Vitor was the more aggressive fighter and control more of that first round than Tito did, thus I give it a 29-28 Belfort win.

Talking after with a few other journalists, Josh Gross from Sherdog had it 29-28 for Belfort as did Michael DiSanto from Inside Fighting who had it 29-28 for Belfort in a very close fight.

WILL TITO OR VITOR BE RE-SIGNED?

It was at one time the flagship division for the UFC, but now it could be as bare as the 185 division was 18 months ago. Tito Ortiz AND Vitor Belfort are both free agents and it’s unclear of the UFC will sign either fighter.

Dana White in a press conference yesterday said it was unclear if they would sign either fighter. “We haven’t heard much from Vitor Belfort this entire time...” the UFC President said. White alluded to the fact that Belfort’s camp was very quiet and hinted that neither side met and there was no plans to meet in the immediate future.

Ortiz made it clear that he is a free agent and it’s unclear what his future holds. Just 24 hours before the main event, Ortiz talked exclusively one on one with MMAWeekly’s Ryan Bennett at the weigh-in and made it clear that he was a free agent and he would sit back and listen to anything and everything. (Watch the interview right now at MMAWeekly TV). The UFC’s has a very interesting decision to be made. Ortiz is still clearly a draw and it’s amazing to see how much the crowd enjoys booing him these days. He has gone from the good guy to the villian almost over night it seems.

Ortiz is still a draw. On fight cards where Ortiz main event’s shows he has sold out his last five apperances. (Editor’s note - some people have emailed saying it was Belfort carrying this match as well...remember Belfort vs Couture did not sell out). There are still a couple fights left for Ortiz. After the hoopla after the fight when Chuck Liddell and Ken Shamrock both entered the Octagon and challenged Ortiz, Tito said he would fight Shamrock. Once again the rumor is that Ortiz has asked for too much money, thus the Shamrock fight would never happen. (This is according to KenShamrock.com)

It was interesting to note at the press conference that Ortiz back tracked calling out Liddell in the Octagon, telling the media he shouldn’t have disrespected Chuck that way and would welcome putting another beating on Ken Shamrock.

Either way it’s clear that Tito Ortiz would be the more desirable free agent, for the simple fact that he is a bigger draw at the gate and that Belfort now has lost to Liddell, Couture and Ortiz.

UFC 52 CARD

The UFC announced their full card for UFC 52, which is scheduled for April 16th:

Randy Couture vs. Chuck Liddell
Matt Hughes vs. Frank Trigg
Matt Lindland vs. Travis Lutter
Georges St. Pierre vs. Jason Miller
Lee Murray vs. Patrick Cote
Mike Van Arsdale vs. John Marsh
Renato 'Babalu' Sobral vs. Travis Wiuff
Trevor Prangley vs. Ivan Salaverry

MMA MEDIA: 'BELFORT WAS ROBBED!!'

After watching the first round again, I would have scored it for Vitor as well. The writer below was correct about the duration of domination. Vitor won that and the only other criteria was Belfort's 2-3 good shots standing vs. Ortiz's 2-3 good elbows on the ground, along with the takedown. Neither fighter was visibly hurt considerably with those shots. That was a very tough round to call. I do think that the fight probably would have been stopped if it was a championship fight and went to a fourth round because Vitor was gassed, but that should have nothing to do with the 3 round decision. I do like the fact that the judges judged and made a decision instead of going the easy route of a draw.

Mike

MMA journalist Ricardo Alonso was live ringside at UFC 51 and gave the following first-hand account of the Vitor Belfort vs. Tito Ortiz matchup:

"Where to start... Vitor Belfort was robbed!! This now makes the second time Vitor has been robbed by the judges in the "new" UFC.

The UFC is supposed to go by who wins the most rounds. So let me break down who won which round...

ROUND 1: It is clear to see that Vitor won round one very convincingly, controlling the fight and stunning Tito for at least 3 1/2 minutes of the first round. Tito only spent 90 seconds on top and did minimal damage.

ROUND 2: It's is very clear again to see that Vitor won round two very convincingly. Vitor came close to finishing this fight in round teo, and was pummeling Tito, with Tito doing nothing but covering up like a bitch!

ROUND 3: This round went to Tito, only because Vitor was already gassed from beating the living hell out of Tito and dominating him for the first two rounds.

So, when we look at the facts, Vitor wins this fight by two rounds to one! Vitor wins this fight 29-28 on the scorecards of anyone who has teo eyes and knows NHB/MMA. Vitor deserved to win this decision."

CAGE WARRIORS UK ATTACKS DANA WHITE

The president of the UK-based 'Cage Warriors' promotion, Dougie Truman, made the following statement regarding the decision of Zuffa to pursue legal action against what they perceive as a 'breach of trademark':

"I was today shocked and stunned when I received a security sealed envelope by US express mail, from a firm of solicitors in America representing Zuffa/ UFC. They are threatening me with court action over their "alleged" breach of trade mark issues, I have until 15th of February to comply or face legal proceedings.

To some of you this will mean absolutely nothing, but to those of us who have worked hard to build MMA in the UK & to push the boundaries of awareness to the masses, not just of our own personal organisations and events but to each others and the general overview of MMA Globally, then this is a big kick in the teeth.

Cagewarriors and our staff/supporters have relentlessly pushed and promoted for greater awareness of this sport, we even invited Sean O'Hara from Setanta Sports to our Newcastle event in 2003 at our own expense and talked him into showing the UFC pay per view, despite their initial reluctance. We also produced flyers and distributed them throughout the UK to help promote the UFC PPV event that was shown on Setanta Sports. We did this in order to help the UFC's presence here in the UK. Now we find the UFC doing this to us when all we have ever wanted to do is help promote the UFC and MMA in our country.

Dana White you are seriously out of touch as to what we are trying to achieve here in the UK, unlike in American we here in the UK work "together" and we "support" each other and have "solidarity" where as you obviously do not and prefer to push your weight around and generally bully the little guy.

I once stupidly thought that if we all worked as hard here in the UK as you guys have in the USA, you would recognise the growth of the UK scene and support it as we have yours. I also thought that as fellow promoters of the same sport, we could communicate personally and build a bigger global presence for the sport and share ideas that would eventually be of mutual benefit. However these hopes were dashed when I received an e-mail from a member of staff at your office a little over a year ago requesting that we remove all UFC e-mail addresses and to stop e-mailing you. This is why I am now issuing my response publicly, as you have shown me little regard or respect by sending me a solicitors letter, when you could have resolved this matter with a simple polite e-mail or letter.

So here I go. Dana White with the greatest of respect stop whining like a biatch and grow a pair of balls like your President and do it, don't mince about like a fairy with your pathetic attempts to threaten me, get your big fat cheque book out and pay a decent firm of solicitors and go for it. See you in court big boy!

Regards Dougie"

YVES EDWARDS EXPOSES UFC REALITY SHOW

Yves Edwards

Yves Edwards made the following comments regarding The Ultimate Fighter' reality show and its special effects gimmicks:

"I just watched the replay of TUF, and I don't know if anyone has pointed this out already or if anyone even noticed it, but on the Southworth/Kincaid fight they used sound effects for the strikes that landed. I thought I was imagining things at the end of the first round when I noticed it, but sure enough when Bobby got the knock out there it was sound effects to go along with the finishing combo. The effects were only during the actual fight not during the replay. This infusion of fake sounds can only be "bad for the sport" when some colon gnome sees it and says "that stuff is fake. See they use sound effects." Oh well cest le vive."

UFC 52: COUTURE VS. LIDDELL 2, APRIL 16

Tickets Go On Sale at Noon, Sunday, Feb. 6, For 8-Fight, All-Star Card at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas

They compete against each other as coaches every week for Team Couture and Team Liddell in the new, exciting The Ultimate Fighter?r reality show on Spike TV. Now, Ultimate Fighting Championship? Light Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture and number one contender Chuck Liddell will clash for the UFC World Light Heavyweight Championship in the main event of UFC 52: Couture vs. Liddell 2, Saturday, April 16, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Tickets priced at $400, $300, $200, $100 and $50, for the all-star, eight-fight card go on sale at Noon, Sunday, Feb. 6, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena box office, all Ticketmaster locations, www.ticketmaster.com, www.mgmgrand.com and by telephone at 800-929-1111 or 702-891-7777. Ticket purchases are subject to transaction fees. UFC 52: Couture vs. Liddell 2 also will be available LIVE on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. EDT on iNDemand, DirecTV, Dish Network, TVN, Echostar, Bell ExpressVu and Viewers Choice Canada. The suggested retail price is $34.95.
Team coaching aside, the Couture-Liddell rematch has been brewing for almost two years since the then 40-year-old Couture, “The Natural” from Portland, Ore., made a dramatic impact on the light heavyweight division with a third-round technical knockout of “The Iceman” Liddell to win the UFC interim light heavyweight title at UFC 43: Meltdown.

Couture, the former two-time UFC heavyweight champ (13-6-0 in mixed martial arts), followed with a rampage through the light heavyweight division, defeating Tito Ortiz for the undisputed title with a dominating, five-round unanimous decision Sept. 26, 2003; losing the belt to Vitor Belfort on January 31, 2004 due to a glancing left hook that opened a cut over his left eye only 48 seconds into the fight, then winning it back from Belfort with another dominating ground and pound performance Aug. 21, 2004. Couture is the only fighter in UFC history to win titles twice in two different weight divisions.

Liddell (14-3-0) from San Luis Obispo, Calif., didn’t allow the loss to Couture to affect his game. He rebounded April 2, 2004 with a powerful second-round knockout of Ortiz to get back into the light heavyweight title picture and followed it with a first-round knockout of Vernon “Tiger” White on the same Couture-Belfort card in August.

“It’s going to be very different this time,” Liddell predicts. “I’m going to win by a knockout and be the light heavyweight champ.”

But Couture is just as adamant. “This fight will end just like the last one. At the end of the night, I’m still going home with the belt,” he said.

Both fighters now have the opportunity to claim the light heavyweight belt just one week after the conclusion of Team Liddell vs. Team Couture Saturday, April 9 on The Ultimate Fighter on Spike TV. The remaining all-star bouts on the UFC 52: Couture vs. Liddell 2 card will be announced in the near future.

The Ultimate Fighter, which premiered last month continues to wow audiences each Monday at 11 p.m. EST/PST on Spike TV. Viewers can follow the remaining 13 fighters each Monday night for nine more episodes as they train, work out and live together before the final show on Saturday, April 9. At the end of each week, one fighter from each of the two teams must fight in the Octagon to avoid being kicked out of the UFC training center until only two remain in each of two weight divisions. In the end, The Ultimate Fighter will be determined by a live competition match – a head-to-head fight to the finish in the Octagon.

Mike Tyson begins training in Gifford

The former heavyweight champion has begun training at a world-renowned facility in Gifford.
By Kevin Van Brimmer

VERO BEACH — Three weeks after telling the New York Post he may never box again, Mike Tyson is back in training in Vero Beach.

World-class trainer Buddy McGirt confirmed Thursday the former heavyweight champion had moved to town and began workouts at McGirt's Elite Boxing facility in Gifford.

"Mike is in town and he's training to get back in shape," McGirt said.

Tyson could not be reached for comment.

McGirt said he did not know if Tyson had a bout scheduled. Tyson was rumored to have a fight scheduled for March, but that timetable does not appear feasible and McGirt said he expected Tyson to be in Vero Beach "for a couple of months."

Tyson, 38, registered as a sex offender with the Indian River County Sheriff's Office on Monday, which he is required to do after being convicted in February 1992 for the 1991 rape of Desiree Washington in Indianapolis.

Washington, an 18-year-old contestant in the 1991 Miss Black America contest, said Tyson forced her to have intercourse with him in his hotel room on July 19, 1991.

Tyson served three years in prison.

"Mike registered (with the Sheriff's Office) earlier this week. He knows he has to do it," McGirt said. "He reminded everyone that he had to. He wanted to get it out of the way before he started training."

Tyson's registration form listed an address in the 1800 block of State Road A1A in the Riomar area, and the Sheriff's Office planned to visit the location and confirm the address Thursday night, said Detective Thom Raulens.

The information will get forwarded to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, which will list him on its Web site of registered sex offenders.

The Sheriff's Office will include Tyson's photo, address and offender status on a scrolling list of registered sex offenders and predators that airs on a government cable TV channel in Indian River County, Raulens said.

Tyson has a professional boxing record of 50-5 with two no-contests and 44 knockouts. He was knocked out in the fourth round by unheralded Englishman Danny Williams in his last bout, on July 30, 2004, in Louisville, Ky.

In 1986, Tyson became the youngest heavyweight champion in history when, at age 20, he knocked out Trevor Berbick to win the WBC belt.

His career continued to rise from there and he held all three major heavyweight titles — the WBC, IBF and WBA — at one time to become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.

In 1990, James "Buster" Douglas shocked the world by knocking Tyson out in Tokyo.

In recent years, Tyson has run into trouble both inside and outside the ring. He has been charged with assault, bit the ear of opponent Evander Holyfield during a bout and later threatened to eat the children of British boxer Lennox Lewis. Lewis does not have children. Tyson filed for bankruptcy in 2003.

PUNISHMENT IN PARADISE
NEWS ALERT!!

Brynes Suspended!!!

On behalf of P.I.P. Steve Brynes will be suspended from fighting in Punishment In Paradise for 6 Months. Meaning he will not be asked to participate in our show. Mr. Brynes management pulled him out because Steve had a motorcycle accident and his ankle was messed up. Mr Brynes left Eastsidaz Kimo Wolfel with out an opponent for Jan 22, 2005. Our descion was made after seeing Brynes fight in Full Contact Showdown a week later.

Fighters who pull out for no reason or fighters who pull out for a injury and participates in another event a week later will be suspended from Punishment In Paradise action.

REASON being that their opponents are trainning hard and making sacrfices and to have their opponent drop out is UNCALLED for. And second it screws the show up and starts making any promotion look unorganized.

Statemant from Brennan Kamaka

I'm sick and tired of these fighters doing this not just to the show but to the other fighter that trains hard and not having a fight. I have talked to other promoters and they feel the same way and will not use the fighters that do these things. The few promoters in Hawaii will stand by eachother and work together in stopping these actions. I even got the word of one of Hawaii's bigest promotions (which name I won't mention) that they will stand by us and do the same.
Every pull out must have a certified doctors note and a contact name and number to be reached.

I realy didn't want to make the amatuer fighters signed contracts of commitment with a clause that a pull out with out reason will cause a fine but now they leave me no choice.

To all teams and fighters who stood by P.I.P we really apperciate your support and promise in 2005 you will see a better P.I.P

Arlovski Hoping to Topple “Giant” Sylvia
by Mike Sloan

If you can actually believe it, there is another fight this Saturday night during the UFC 51 event besides Ortiz-Belfort. Sure, the light heavyweight glamour boys have soaked up all of the limelight, but the chief under card bout of the evening could wind up being one of the most talked about fights in quite some time. Forget Ortiz-Belfort, forget Tanner-Terrell and forget New England-Philadelphia. I'm talking about Andrei Arlovski versus Tim Sylvia.

During the last-minute rush that is the final few days before any Ultimate Fighting Championship, all within the Sherdog camp run amuck like headless chickens. Actually, it's not unlike Christmas Eve, when parents bounce around from shop to shop looking for that devilish Tickle Me Rogan doll for those pesky kids. So with that said, I was relieved when I was able to nab Arlovski for an all-too-brief one-on-one.

The interview almost never came to fruition, but thanks in large to Arlovski's manager Nikolay Travkin, the Q&A was pulled off. Travkin also helped translate the Q&A as well. While I usually tend to ask questions for 30 or so minutes, Arlovski's grueling schedule and training routine prevented the usual War and Peace length interview.

Hey Andrei, who all are you sparring with and how grueling was your training regime for this fight?

My present training routine includes: morning running [for] 1 1/2 hours, [during the] day boxing 1 to 1 1/2 hours with Efrain Escudero and Arturo Salas, [and] evening grappling 2 hours with Dino Costeas, six days a week.

Sylvia is a very big guy, probably the biggest man you've faced. You are a great boxer from the outside, but how will you be able to fight Sylvia from a good range? He has pretty deadly knees when in close.

I don't think that Sylvia has deadly knees; I didn't see any KOs from him by knees. I'm ready for boxing with him and to grappling as well.

Are you prepared to bring the fight to the ground if for some reason your boxing skills aren't working as well as planned?

As I said I'm ready for bringing the fight to the ground. Overall I'm not bad in grappling.

What are the biggest weaknesses in Sylvia that you will try and exploit?

I prefer not to say about it at this point. The fight will show it.

You are probably the best all-around boxer in MMA. Why have you never turned to professional boxing?

I like what I'm doing now. I love to fight in the Octagon. And, I look forward for more fights in MMA. Professional boxing? It's not on my preference list at this moment.

Your English is very good, by the way, considering how long you've been trying to learn. What is the most difficult part in learning a new language?

Thanks for your kind words. Yes, there are few difficult parts in learning a new language: such as many different nuances, fear to talk because you think that people will not understand you, small stock of words. But I'm learning more when I talk to people. More practice—this is what I need.

This fight is for the "interim" heavyweight title. Does it mean less to you because it is not for the "real" title?

Not at all. I'm very serious about this fight. Actually it doesn't matter for me if a fight for title or not. I train hard for any fight. Each fight is important for me.

If you win, are you guaranteed to face Frank Mir next?

I believe that this question is for Zuffa. I wish Frank speedy and full recovery. And, if it will be a fight between us, I'll be ready.

Are you planning on being strictly a UFC fighter, or are you willing to fight for PRIDE, K-1, etc?

I like to fight in the UFC, and I don't see any reasons why I should stop doing it. Of, course nobody can predict exactly what future will bring to us.

If you win the title, are you nervous that the UFC may strip you if the belt, considering Zuffa's history with stripping champions?

I'm not sure that I understand your question. I work with the UFC; I have the contract with the UFC, and I don't have plans to break it. I don't plan to be stripped.

Nikolay Travkin: As a co-manager of Andrei I would like to add to his interview that he is in very, very good shape and he cannot wait to step into the octagon for this fight.

I believe that all fans will like this upcoming fight; and Andrei's fans will be very happy with Andrei's performance and the result of the fight.

Andrei is ready to make himself a very special present on his birthday, which is on February 4!

TANNER EMBARKS ON NEW JOURNEY THIS WEEKEND

There is more on the line in the match between Evan Tanner and David Terrell at UFC 51 than the Middleweight Championship, for Tanner it’s a chance to prove to the world that he can achieve greatness on his own.

For most of his early career Tanner worked mostly on his own, using his natural skills to defeat opponents in the days before mass cross-training became the norm. Then as the sport began to grow Tanner realized that he would have to change his training in order to achieve, thus leading him out of his native Texas to Oregon to work with Team Quest.

Over the last few years Tanner’s work with Quest has helped him produce some of the largest victories of his career. As Tanner grew he began to further sharpen the weak ends of his game leading him outside of Team Quest and ultimately to leave the team altogether. Now against Terrell, Tanner has to prove that leaving the sanctity of one of the most respected teams in MMA was the right move to further his career.

For the most part Tanner’s clinch and good groundwork have been the basis for victory. But over the last couple of years he’s learned that strikers have been able to hurt him coming in and in the case of his fight against Rich Franklin in 2003, cost him a victory. So Tanner sought the help of Curtis Crawford, another former Team Quest member, to sharpen his skills so that he works his way naturally into his strength of clinching, rather than running headfirst taking damage in the process.

Over his last few fights Tanner has looked sharper standing and has avoided many of the pitfalls of his style that he was getting into before working with Crawford. He’s earned his shot at the middleweight title because he’s been able to move down in weight and perform at a higher pace than he was at light heavyweight. Victories over Phil Baroni and Robbie Lawler have given Tanner the chance to take things into his own hands to provide him with few obstacles. With Matt Lindland losing to Terrell at UFC 49, the last bump in the road was cleared, giving Tanner his shot.

Few in the public mind are giving much attention to Tanner. Many are skeptical about his chances to succeed without the support of Quest; even betting lines have been set against him. But that can be misleading as betting lines are set not as accurate predictors of a situation, they are mearly set to entice people to bet money, so even though he is an underdog by gambling lines, he is far from a longshot.

Tanner himself has acknowledged that his is not what the UFC wants. He is not the most marketable fighter in the division because he’s not the youngest and doesn’t possess the aggressive attitude that has gotten other fighters far in the game based on talk alone. Tanner is a hard working quiet man, as long as modern society sees fit to reward obnoxious behavior he may never be the crowd favorite, but his talent is undeniable.

His work with Crawford has produced a much sharper striker with the ability to see openings and exploit them. He’s always been great on the ground and his calm demeanor allows Evan to be comfortable in any situation and work his way out of trouble without panicking. As he’s shown in the past it’s able to rattle Tanner’s body, but rarely his mind. As long as he doesn’t get hurt, he can’t be forced into making stupid mistakes, and with that comes possibly his greatest strength, his knowledge of the sport and how to use what he’s got to win.

So for Evan Tanner, his title shot at UFC 51 is for more than just a belt, it’s a chance for him to showcase how truly good of a fighter he is. It’s a chance for the quiet guy to get the spotlight and show that there are fighters worth people’s support even if they don’t talk smack all the time. He’s earned this shot for being consistent and being a great fighter, and that, not attitude, is the mark of a true long lasting champion. If he succeeds or fails it will completely be in the hands of Evan, and he wouldn’t want it any other way.

EVAN TANNER VS DAVID TERRELL
TALE OF THE TAPE:
UFC MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

This weekend David Terrell and Evan Tanner will meet at UFC 51 to crown a new Middleweight Champion. MMAWeekly offers a quick break down of the key areas that may play a factor in this anticipated match-up. We show you who we believe may have the advantages and why.

STANDUP: David Terrell

WHY: This category would show a slight favor in the direction of Terrell. If you were to base it solely off his UFC debut, the margin would further swing in the favor of Terrell, but Terrell has placed extra emphasis in improving his standup in training, and is prepared to show the world that he is more then a ‘one punch’ wonder.

TAKEDOWNS: Evan Tanner

WHY: Both fighters have demonstrated great use of the takedown in past fights, but there would have to be a slight edge given to Tanner in this area. This will be a key area for Tanner to try to dominate, as Tanner clearly has the advantage with the elbows in the clinch.

SUBMISSIONS: David Terrell

WHY: This is a key area that clearly would fall in the favor of Terrell. Terrell is not only a Cesar Gracie black belt, but maintains a record of never having had an offensive point scored against him in submission fighting.

STAMINA: Evan Tanner

WHY: Tanner has shown his durability and wear through out his career. Everyone remembers his battles with Phil Baroni over the years. This will be interesting to see if the fight goes into the late rounds how David Terrell will respond.

CHIN: Pick’em

WHY: This is one area that does not favor one of these fighters clearly over the other. In Tanner, fans have seen both the good and bad. At UFC 42, Tanner was clearly rocked by Rich Franklin and never able to recover – where at UFC 45, Tanner took some big shots from Phil Baroni early in the fight and easily regained composure to pull off the victory. So it is really a mixed bag as to weather or not Tanner’s chin might play a role in the outcome. With Terrell it is really a complete unknown factor, as to date the testing of Terrell’s chin has never played a role in one of his professional fights.

KNOCKOUT POWER: David Terrell

WHY: With 30 professional fights in his career, only one has had an outcome decided by KO, and unfortunately Tanner was on the losing end of that match-up. Needless to say KO power is not one on Tanner’s more talked about skill sets. The opposite could be said in the case of Terrell who made quick work of UFC Middleweight contender Matt Lindland with a devastating KO at UFC 49. Although most are accustom to comment on the impressive submission skills of Terrell, this would be yet another area that would favor this rising star.

INTANGIBLES:

Evan Tanner: UFC 51 will mark the twelfth time that Tanner has entered the Octagon. There is a great deal to be said about experience and performing on this stage. This is clearly one area that is a real strength for Tanner.

David Terrell: There is a great deal of buzz that surrounds Terrell in what he can one day accomplish in this sport, perhaps this is his time, but it is Tanner that will have more pressure resting on his shoulders entering this fight. It is that ‘nothing to lose’ mentality that might work to the advantage to Terrell, as long as he has not fallen victim to his own hype.

UNKNOWNS:

It has been well documented in recent news reports that Tanner is no longer a member of Team Quest. What will the impact on making such a change in training hold? Will the fact the Couture, Lindland, and Henderson are not there in the corner hurt Tanner? Will such a sudden change in general have any lingering effects on mental focus in preparation of this fight? These are all valid questions that fans are asking as Tanner prepares to enter this UFC Middleweight showdown.

IS TITO ORTIZ THE MIKE TYSON OF MMA?
BY SCOOP MCTROLL

This weekend the former UFC Light Heavyweight of the world steps back into the Octagon against Vitor "The Phenom" Belfort. It will be a make or break fight for the much maligned fallen champion. Noone could deny that he has seen better days and that the outcome of this fight will make or break his career as a top level MMA fighter.

In many ways the career of Tito Ortiz mirrors that of former World Heavyweight Boxing Champion "Iron" Mike Tyson. Both men reached the heights of their sport, only to have it come crashing down around them. The parallels between the two are uncanny.

1-Mike Tyson was taken in by legendary boxing trainer Cus D'amato.

Tito Ortiz was taken in by legendary UFC fighter Tank Abbott.

2-Mike Tyson seemed unstoppable in the early stage of his career when he tore through his opponents with ease.

Tito Ortiz seemed unstoppable in the early stage of his career when he tore though his opponents with ease.

3-Mike Tyson is influenced by others and leaves the trainers that Cus D'Amato had set him up with before he died.

Tito Ortiz is influenced by others and leaves the training with Tank Abbott and the crew that trained with him.

4-Mike Tyson fought aging heavyweight Larry Holmes and knocked him out. He claimed a shallow victory but it looked good on his record.

Tito Ortiz ducked genuine contenders to fight aging heavyweight Ken Shamrock, who was forced to drop to 205lbs to fight Tito. Tito won against the anorexic and injured Shamrock when Ken couldn't come out for Rd 4. He claimed a shallow victory but it looked good on his record.

5-Mike Tyson crashed his car into a tree, the newspapers say it was a suicide attempt.

Tito Ortiz crashes his car , he is believed to have been drunk and very depressed.

6-- Mike Tyson fought Buster Douglas, a fighter he thought he would beat easily. He was knocked out.

Tito Ortiz fought Frank Shamrock, a smaller fighter he thought he would beat easily. He tapped out with no heart.

7- Mike Tyson came back after losing to Douglas and beat a string of chumps and hand picked opponents.

Tito Ortiz came back after losing to Frank Shamrock and beat a string of hand picked opponents. In his one fight with a tough opponent, Vanderlei Silva, Tito ran from him when they were standing and laid on him on the ground to stall for a poor home town decision.

8- Mike Tyson divorces his first wife.

Tito Ortiz splits up with his first wife.

9- Mike Tyson steps up and fights Evander Holyfield. Holyfield outboxes him and knocks Tyson out.

Tito Ortiz steps up and fights Randy Couture. Couture out fights him in every way and humiliates Tito in front of thousands of people.

10- Mike Tyson steps up to fight Evander Holyfield for a second time, he loses it in the ring and bites Holyfield's ear. Losing the fight.

Tito Ortiz steps up and fights Chuck Liddell, he loses it in the cage when Chuck kicks him to the head. At the beginning of round 2, Chuck brutally knocks out Tito.

11- Mike Tyson fights bums in order to build up his dwindling reputation and record.

Tito Ortiz fights B grade Canadian middleweight, Patrick Cote in order to build up his dwindling reputation and record.

12- Mike Tyson steps up and fights Lennox Lewis. He is brutally knocked out after a poor performance.

Tito Ortiz is stepping up and fighting Vitor Belfort on February 5th. If the Tyson-Tito pattern continues then we should expect to see Tito being brutally beat down by Vitor Belfort at UFC51.

Pride: Wanderlei Vs Ninja Vs Shogun?

Pride's President Nobuyuki Sakakibara passage in Curitiba (PR) seemed to change Wanderlei Silva's mind. According to Chute Boxe's leader Rudimar Fedrigo, Wanderlei is confirmed to fight at Pride GP Middleweight, in next April. "Wanderlei remains in Pride. We've closed a deal of four our five bouts. He will also fight the GP. This deal was not only good for Wanderlei, but for the whole team," Rudimar said.

Besides the confirmation of Murilo Ninja at Pride 29, next February 20, against Quinton Jackson, Chute-Boxe will also count on Maurício Shogun. Ninja's brother gets on Hiromitsu Kanehara, defeated by Wanderlei at Pride 23, in November of 2002. Wanderlei Silva talked about the chance to fight his teammates.

- If I met them on the tournament it would be punk. I have been training daily with them and I know they kick asses. I've knocked them down and I was also knocked - reminded the champion, who still has plans to fight among the lightweights. "In the end of the year I want to fight as a heavyweight", Wanderlei said.

COFFEE GUY EXCLUSIVE: KEN SHAMROCK VS. TITO 2

A deal is currently being worked on to sign Tito Ortiz to a 1-fight deal to face Ken Shamrock on the live finale of 'The Ultimate Fighter' reality show in April.

Shamrock is signed. It looks like Tito might just sign this deal because of two reasons:

1. They might be giving him the money he wants.

2. Tito thinks he'll beat Shamrock and look good on live television in front of possibly over 1 million viewers.

I'll have more info on this in a few weeks.

POSTAL CONNECTIONS:
PRIDE MAY TRY TO SIGN BELFORT

By Tape Lord

Hello my friends, my postal connections in the DSE/PRIDE organization are telling me that when DSE/PRIDE president Sakakibara visits the US next week, that he will try to sign Vitor Belfort to the upcoming PRIDE Middleweight GP.

Belfort's last fight of his UFC contract will be completed on February 5th when he faces Tito Ortiz.

Sakakibara will supposedly try to sign Ortiz, who will also be a free agent after the fight, as well. But it is expected that Ortiz does not want anything to do with fighting on the PRIDE level, and look to either re-sign with the UFC or retire.

Quote of the Day

"You cannot dream yourself into a character; you must hammer and forge yourself one."

James A. Froude, 1818-1894, English Historian

Pe de Pano Suspended from Arnold's

Marcio "Pe de Pano" has been told the news from the organizers of the Arnold Schwarzenegger-Gracie World Submission Championships that this year he need not apply and that he has been officially suspended from competing due to his involvement in last year's melee.
A defiant Pe de Pano laughed off the suspension telling Gracie Magazine that, "He (Jeff Monson) started the incident, fought and everything, but nothing happened to him. But they want to say it was I that did it all! They told me the sponsors don't want me this year, so I told them that I won't fight there again until 2029, then I'll return...It's not I that need their event.."

BTT STATEMENT

The Brazilian Top Team released the following statement regarding the rumors that the team was possibly going to split up (translation by Ricardo Alonso):

"Due to the rumors being propagated around the internet by anonymous people, we have decided to issiue the following statement regarding the supposed break-up of the Brazilian Top Team.

We've always had a pact amongst our team to not respond to malicious rumors of this type, but we feel it is important to give a final declaration addressing these lies.

A lot has been said about the dissent among the members of the BTT, especially regarding Murilo Bustamante and Mario Sperry. We can affirm that any team with three leaders will disagree with one another from time to time, but the good sense of all the members will always guide the decisions of the team. This is a common fact of any society, circle of friends, or families. We always seek to come to an agreement based on good terms and flexibility of opinions, that always put the interests of the team first, and always looking to evolve the sport as a business. BTT is stronger today then it's ever been, training together on a daily basis. Unfortunately, we are not invincible, but we are always positive and we will not stop trying to progress.

We recieve daily propositions from fighters around the world wanting to be a part of our team. Our business helps diverse families who live off of the industry if jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts. Our team is very strong and united.

We'd like to thank our fans who always believe in our work. Our reply will always be inside of the rings.

GOMEZ: 'I CHALLENGE FABIANO IHA'

Grappling circuit veteran Ulysses Gomez made the following challenge to Fabiano Iha:

"I, a 130 pound blue belt is challenging FABIANO IHA to a fight. Now you might be thinking why a 130 pound blue belt with no striking ability or even fighting experience is gonna challenge a former UFC and PRIDE fighter. And you're also probably thinking why would IHA take the fight. Considering the fact that he would have nothing to gain. Which is an excellent point.

Now here's my question, why would FABIANO IHA CHALLENGE a BJJ black who weighs over 200 pounds to a MMA fight. A BJJ black belt who doesn't fight at all. All he does is train fighters. All in all the BJJ black belt would have nothing to gain. Considering the fact that his only aspiration right now is to just train his fighters and build his school. And what would he have to prove by beating a smaller fighter. Thats kinda like IHA fighting me. It does nothing for his career.

Personally I feel that the reason why IHA challenged the BJJ black belt was so he wouldnt have to fight one of the BJJ black belt students. Seems kinda weird that he would rather fight a person whos a lot bigger, not only that but a person who dosent fight at all. It would make for an excellent excuse if he lost. He could say something like "the guy was bigger my friend".

So heres my message to FABIANO, SAV UP! Step up and fight Jay Herion in Hawaii. Get past him and than we can talk.

With love,

Ulysses Gomez

UFC TALE OF THE TAPE: Sylvia vs. Arlovski

Tim Sylvia and Andre Arlovski are set to throw down for the Interim UFC Heavyweight Title. Below, we break down the fight in a few key areas. We show you who we believe to have the advantage in those key areas and
why.

STANDUP: TIM SYLVIA
WHY: This could easily be a toss up between two great strikers, but there is one thing that Sylvia possesses that Arlovski doesn’t, a longer range. Sylvia has the ability to keep fighters on the outside and make it nearly impossible for anyone to get close enough to him to put him in danger.

TAKEDOWNS: TIM SYLVIA
WHY: While Arlovski is a very good Sambo practitioner with the ability to take down opponents, Sylvia has the advantage of working with Matt Hughes in the Miletich camp. Sylvia’s size and work with Hughes allows for him to get a superior grip from distances and with his size he can pick his opponent up nearly 7 feet in the air before slamming them to the ground.

GROUND GAME: ANDREI ARLOVSKI

WHY: Basically we've never seen Tim Sylvia on the ground and the one brief time we did, Frank Mir took him out with an armbar. Arlovski has been efficent on the ground which takes us to our next topic.

SUBMISSIONS: ANDREI ARLOVSKI
WHY: Arlovski’s expertise in Sambo is unmatched in the heavyweight division. He’s shown he can take the fight to the ground and immediately work a submission, whereas Sylvia has used submissions as a last resort. Arlovski has also never been beaten by a submission, unlike Sylvia.

STAMINA: TIM SYLVIA
WHY: When it comes to productivity in the heavyweight division, few if any can match Sylvia. In just four years of competition, Sylvia has fought 18 times and in many of his fights he’s purposely trained for 5 rounds, Arlovski hasn’t until now.

CHIN: TIM SYLVIA
WHY: Tim Sylvia has never been knocked out, and while Arlovski has taken his fair amount of punishment and kept going, he’s been placed on the canvas twice in his career. No one has proven that Sylvia can be knocked out.

KNOCKOUT POWER: ANDREI ARLOVSKI
WHY: So how can we say the guy with better stand up doesn't have the advantage in KO? Both fighters possess power, there is no doubt of that, but only Arlovski was able to put Cabbage Correira on the floor and with less opportunity than Sylvia had in his fight against Correira. Arlovski has shown he’s able to do more damage with fewer punches than Sylvia has.

INTANGIBLES:
TIM SYLVIA: Tim has fought for the UFC title three times, coming away 2-1 in those fights. He knows the pressure of the situation and what is required to achieve in those situations.

ANDREI ARLOVSKI: The ground game, in the eyes of many the way to beat Sylvia (and for that matter any Miletich fighter) is take the fight to the ground. Sylvia has shown that he is capable of getting caught on the ground and this is something Arlovski has been able to capitalize on against past opponents.

UNKNOWNS:
How will Arlovski perform in championship fight? Arlovski has never fought under this amount of pressure to succeed and that is something that cannot be trained for. Whether Andrei rises to the challenge or falters in the wake of expectation could very well be the deciding factor of this fight and the future of the heavyweight division.

UFC 51 Pickin’ and Grinnin’
by Sherdog.com

Welcome to another edition of Sherdog.com's Pickin’ and Grinnin’. See the staff's predictions for UFC 51: Super Saturday with a little lighthearted humor sprinkled in. Also check out PRIDE and UFC veteran Carlos Newton's pick for the Sylvia-Arlovski match up. Plus see Josh Gross’s picks (not that they mean much) for free for the first time in a long time.

Tito Ortiz vs. Vitor Belfort

Rob King
The “Huntington Beach Bad Boy” is going to get Punk'd, and I don't mean by Ashton Kutcher. Belfort via TKO late in round two.

Scott Holmes
My grand pappy used to always say "even a cur dog will whup a pitbull in it's own backyard." What does this mean? I don't know ... grand pappy drank a lot but I think it means that Tito takes this one because the octagon is still HIS house.

Greg Savage
In a battle of would-be soap opera stars, I am going with the wannabe actor with the better all around skills and that is Vitor Belfort. Considering neither one of these guys really wants to be a fighter anymore I don’t think you can even break it down to that “Who wants it more?” level that all prognosticators use as the default. I guess the real question, seeing how far both of these guys have fallen since their first scheduled fight three-and-a-half years ago, is does anyone really care?

Josh Gross
With Ortiz and Belfort it may come down to which guy wants it less. Ortiz has been dying to get out of his contract and after this fight he’ll get that wish. And Belfort, well, what you see is definitely what you don’t get. (Has there been a bigger disappointment in mixed martial arts?) Couture handed Ortiz a blueprint. I think he follows it. Even a Patrick Cote-like effort might be enough to win.

Mike Sloan
At least when this is over, Vitor can go home to his gorgeous wife. That is the only positive outcome for Vitor as Tito will smash him into smithereens. Tito via TKO round three due to GnP.

Andrei Arlovski vs. Tim Sylvia
UFC Interim Heavyweight Title

Rob King
Dabranach Spadar Sylvia (Belarussian for Good Night Mr. Sylvia). Arlovski will look Viel'mi dobra (very good) in his treytsi (third) round KO of Sylvia.

Scott Holmes
Arlovski's mean and as a general rule I always bet on the man with hair on his trapezoids … but in this case, I go with Sylvia. He's gotta be hungry and he's got a chip on his shoulder the size of an arm cast.

Jeff Sherwood
I’m going with Sylvia in this one by decision. I already have the vision in my head of Timmy sitting next to the planter in the Mandalay Bay bar with the strap over his shoulder stalking every pair that walks by, by saying “hey sexy” want to meet a champ. Remember he is a “Maine-iac.”

Masa Fukui
Japanese fighter says “Bigger is not always the better. They need Quickness, and all the other skills.” And I have to agree as Japanese ”Size doesn’t matter.” Andrei will defeat Giant Sylvia by TKO round three.

Pedro Wrobel
Hairy guys get all the girls. Arlovski by sub round two.

Brian
Pit Bulls often have a size disadvantage but they still rip the throats out of bigger dogs. Tim better bring a bat into the cage because if he doesn’t Arlovski will KO him in round one.

Carlos Newton:
I think a lot of times [Sylvia’s] done well, just because he's a BIG BOY .. He’s steppin' in with someone who's just as big as him. He won't be able to overcome Arlovski's heart .. The guy's from friggin' Belarus, c'mon.

Greg
Get the fire hoses and the extinguishers out because the Arlovski bandwagon is going down in flames come Super Bowl weekend. If Tim Sylvia is completely healthy it will be a night to forget for the current object of MMA fans nocturnal emissions.

Josh
When your manager openly calls you “Polio Legs” it’s tough to take you seriously as a fighter. But somehow Tim Sylvia has managed to make a living and even win a championship. Now he’ll get a crack at a “coveted” UFC interim title—I think I saw them being sold at souvenir stands at the last UFC—against his polar opposite: the well-built and extremely athletic Andrei Arlovski. This fight stays on the feet and Arlovski will have trouble with “Polio” Tim’s reach. Sylvia by TKO in the fifth.

Kelsey
Sylvia by KO round one. Frank Mir will once more have an opportunity to demonstrate that Tim Sylvia does not feel pain in his extremities.

David Terrell vs. Evan Tanner
UFC Middleweight Title

Rob
For most, "One punch" is a nickname that means they can finish any fight with one punch. For Terrell, it's the only reason behind this title shot. Tanner via TKO in round two.

Pedro
Terrell sings it like Chesney Hawkes. One hit-wonder's had his hit. Tanner by decision.

Brian
Tanner has seen it all, but sometimes the hype is real. Terrell takes this one by rear naked choke in the first.

Jeff Sherwood
Better jump on the bandwagon now because come Feb 5 all you will be hearing is seats taken. Terrell by sub round two.

Kelsey
Terrell submission round one. Tanner 's quest for the belt (no pun intended) ends with a choke. (Is the pun intended here though?)

Sloan
Tanner will score a slick armbar against Terrell in the third round and within weeks, will be stripped of his newly won middleweight title. Dana White will wish him the best.

Final Tally

Tito Ortiz over Vitor Belfort: 10-2
Andrei Arlovski over Tim Sylvia: 9-4
Dave Terrell over Evan Tanner: 7-5
Phil Baroni over Pete Sell: 10-2
James Irvin over Mike Kyle: 8-4
Nick Diaz over Drew Fickett: 11-1
Chris Lytle over Karo Parisyan: 8-4

So-called experts included:
Josh Gross, Greg Savage, Jeff Sherwood, Mike Sloan, Kelsey Mowatt, Pedro Wrobel, Brian Piepenbrink, Masa Fukui, Scott Holmes, Rob King, Mike Fridley, Freddie DeFreitas and special guest for the heavyweight title fight Carlos Newton.

UFC 51: Carlson Gracie bets on Ortiz

Invited to go to next edition of UFC by his student, Stephen 'Robocop' Bonnar, who took part in the American reality show 'Ultimate Fighter', Carlson Gracie is departing from Chicago for Vegas tomorrow. Asked about the main event between his ex-student Vitor Belfort the master did not hesitate: 'I'm going to make a lot of money in Vegas. I've heard Vitor a 2x1 favorite over Ortiz. I'll bet US 200 on Ortiz and make a lot of money! I don't know how trained Ortiz is right now, but I don't believe Vitor can beat him' stated Gracie.

SOUTHWORTH SUPPOSEDLY LIED TO BY DANA WHITE AND TUF PRODUCERS

From recent comments made by UFC reality show contestant Bobby Southworth, it would appear that UFC president Dana White and the producers of the show may have mislead Southworth regarding the weight cutting issue.

As MMA fans who saw episode 3 will recall, Southworth was literally locked in a steam room by Chuck Liddell and forced to lose 32 pounds in five days. Such rapid weight loss is considered very unhealthy and possibly life threatening by many doctors.

Here's what Southworth said on the UG forum:

"No I did not apply. When I asked my manager Crazy Bob, he told me the show had already been cast. I got a call 1 day before final casting(3 wks) before filming started. I showed up and weight was an obious issue. They said they would like to have me on the show. I took a bunch of med tests and then went home. I received a packet for a background check 2 days later.

At this point I was semiretired. Last fight more than a year before, and had only trained like 10 times in 14 months(bjj). I had gone from 215 to 252. You are right there is a lot you can do in 2-3 wks to get ready. So I started training. I received confirmation that I had passed meds, background, etc. 2 wks. prior to filming began.

At that point I was told,...

YOU DON'T HAVE TO MAKE WEIGHT UNTIL THE FINALS." -Bobby Southworth

Southworth followed up that statement with this one:

"ON THE TUF: Everyone has heard that I had late notice that I was on the show. AND,..YES I WAS OUT OF SHAPE!!

FACTS:I WAS TOLD I DIDN'T HAVE TO MAKE WEIGHT UNLESS I WAS A FINALIST.We were told we had to make weight 5 days before the weigh in you saw. At that time I had caught a nasty flu. I was coughing up bloody mucus, blowing it out my nose, and had a fever of 101. I weighed 237. I started cutting. For 4 days I had 2 small meals a day and washed it down with 2 gal. of water with honey, lemon, and cayenne pepper. That was my diet up to the challenge. I was still sick and extremely congested.Ask any fighter there. At the end you see me drop and start coughing up blood. I weighed 227. I WENT THRU ALL THAT, DIDN'T MISS TRAINING,AND MADE WEIGHT. 32 POUNDS IN 5 DAYS. AND STILL HAD TO,...KTFO OF MY FRIEND!!!

-F--K ALL OF THE HATERS, SORRY I'M A BITCH!!" -Bobby Southworth

SOUTHWORTH BLASTS INTERNET WARRIOR

Bobby Southworth blasted an internet warrior named Daren Roth, who goes by the screenname of 'winston wolf' on the UG forum.

Daren Roth claims to be a Serra blue belt from Huntington Station, Long Island, New York. Roth went on to say that Southworth was giving away the results of the UFC reality show that Southworth participated in. Here's what Southworth replied to Roth:

"F--K Y-U, WOLF. I gave away nothing you fing punk. I posted on 1 attn bsouth thread.

Everyone knows we signed a nondisclosure for 5 MILLION. I have't said anything. Are you like trying to get me sued by posting something that is pure speculation."

A New era in fight sports and entertainment
By James Baker, Paul Smith, & Sandra Nunez

Terry Treibcock & Ted Williams have played a vital part in the promotions for full contact sports. During this interview, as a group project, we had no idea what to expect from this up coming discussion. What came out of this was a well-earned respect for the hard work, preparation, and determination to make dreams come true.

Terry graduated from Claremont High School in Southern California, and enrolled in Cal. State Fullerton taking business classes. He has had his hand in different business venues, but one particular business caught his eye about 10 years ago.

Terry is the owner of an entertainment-sporting event called King of the Cage. The event is a mixture of several different martial arts, which pits one person’s martial arts style versus another. It is a full contact sport, which is slowly but surely making its way to the mainstream public, and most importantly into our living rooms everyday.

This paper was to be written, as a class/group project on entrepunearship, but what we found was a man, a team, and an organization that is leading the next wave of sports entertainment into our lives.

King of the Cage started back in 1998, when there was no understanding of the mixed martial arts world, and what 21st. century martial life was like. This promotion is based out of Fontana, Ca. but the events are held all over the United States.

King of the Cage was started due to Terry’s vision after watching other mixed martial arts events on T.V. To get an understanding of what exactly was taking place inside the ring; He enrolled himself in a few different martial arts schools, as well as purchasing an instructional series by a MMA legend named Royce Gracie.

As he began to pick up on the different techniques and styles that were being used to defeat opponents that were bigger, faster, and more athletic then he was, Terry began to teach at a Health Club called Cardio Fit in the Inland Empire.

Once he gasped the concept of what was taking place between the fighters inside the ring, he began to branch out and teach in different areas of Southern California. As the way Terry tells it, an unknown man walked into his class one day, and without warning began throwing not only himself but also the rest of the class around the mat room. That person is named Ted Williams. Ted and Terry formed a friendship from that day on, and it continued into an entrepreneur partnership now known as King of the Cage.

Terry took some time out of his 20 hour work day, to talk about how he is masterminding King of the Cage into one of the biggest sports entertainment venues of the 21st. century.

What makes K.O.T.C. work, and would you have done differently while starting out with this business?

TT: Making any business work, you must have the finances to overcome the obstacles you will face along the way. You must have a strong / loyal support team to help carry some of the burden of the stresses of running shows all over the country. When I started K.O.T.C. I thought it was going to be easy, I learned very fast that I was going to have my hands full. Luckily I had the 100% support of my wife Julie. She keeps me organized, and slows me down when I am going 200 miles an hour getting shows together. I have a real solid team behind me in ensuring that not only does the business & show succeed, but I succeed also. I have a right hand man in Ted Williams he handles the daily operations and takes the stresses off me a little; I have my attorney Howard, my accountant Mike. Without those four people in my life, King of the Cage would not be as successful as it is today.

What is the single most important thing in becoming a successful entrepreneur / businessman?

TT: I started this business because I fell in love with Mixed Martial Arts. The first time I saw an event that featured Royce Gracie Vs. Dan Severn, and observed how the crowd was reacting to the back and forth battle inside the octagon, I knew from that day on, this was something I wanted to get involved with. You have to love what you are doing and 100% commit in making sure your business flourishes. Not just gets by, or is doing O.K., push it, set goals, and see them through. One of the main goals I set for King of the Cage was to get it on Cable T.V. We completed a deal with In-Demand pay-per-view, and on November 21st 2004, every single household in America was able to watch an event called Revenge. I am continuing to push this sport to be the best. King of the Cage is being talked about on Fox, ESPN, local channels like UPN 13, Fox 11, etc. We want to bring entertainment into everyone’s living room, that’s why guys like Charles “Crazy Horse” Bennett, are good for the sport. He brings excitement with slams, flips off the fence; he does whatever it takes to bring the thousands of fans to their feet.

McDonalds has Burger King, ESPN has FOX Sports Net, who is King of the Cages biggest competition in the entertainment world of MMA?

TT: Gladiator Challenge is my biggest competition, without a doubt! The guy who runs that event is an animal. (Ted Williams.) Everyone wants to be involved in the fight game, but what makes it succeed is a business mind behind it. The competition I face is the guys who are illegally holding nightclub run type fights that are bringing in 1000 or so people. They make a quick lump sum of cash, and disappear before the local authorities can put a stop to it. This has been an uphill battle for K.O.T.C., so I would have to say people who are holding Illegal events are the biggest competition.

Since you own / operate a sporting event that is yours. Have you ever sat back to watch a match, and said to yourself; “Wow, this is a great fight or great event I put together!”?

TT: Oh yeah, lets see… Dean Lister vs. Jeremy Horn, Charlie Kohler vs. Takumi, every fight of Paul Benutellos. My last Pay View View event called Revenge was my favorite event to watch. It had great matches, and it was my way of letting other events out there know that King of the Cage is having their Revenge by being broadcasted in every home in America and all over the world on Pay per View.

Are there any types of crowds or fighters for that matter, who you look for to recruit & participate in your events?

TT: I go out of my way to recruit the professional type of crowds. All it takes is a few bad dummies to make a first time fan watching it live, to never want to come back to an event. I have personally gone up into the stands with the authorities, and have had a few people removed who was out of control. I go out of my way in recruiting the professional type fan, to come out and enjoy our shows. As for fighters, I look at their personality, are they a good person, or are they dishonest. If they are a dishonest person, I can usually see it pretty quickly and I will not ask them to participate in another event. I have a few guys, which have helped in the recruitment of the professional crowd, and with the personality based fighters. Guys like Dans custom fishing rods, Ernie Perea who is an MMA fighter / Law Enforcement Officer in the Inland Empire, these guys as well as a few others, bring a large fan base with them to KOTC shows. They have showed their loyalty and support in the growth of the business, they will always be part of K.O.T.C. alumni.

As a full contact sport, some see the business side of MMA leaning in the direction of how things are in boxing. How are boxing / MMA different/the same?

TT: MMA today is what boxing was like 100 years ago. Fighters now are fighting for pride, and a small purse. Boxing used to be the same back when it first started. In the Mixed Martial Arts world, who fights will soon be determined by money, instead of skill, just like it is right now in boxing. As a sport, we are not to that point yet, but it will be soon enough. Speaking of fighting for pride, instead of money. Go down to your local public hockey rink, watch those guys play for the fun of it. I have been asked in the past, if I would ever compete in an MMA event like Ted has, Larry Landless, and a few others, my answer to that is, I am an hockey player first and that’s where I do my fighting. Hockey is all about grit, determination, and toughness, a very tough sport. I compete in hockey games about 3 times a month, and I am always getting into some kind of scuffle with an opponent, mainly cops! Those guys like to fight and get into your face. Ernie Perea should like that!

Hockey is a toughmans sport and very entertaining also. What was the up and coming period for you like? Was there anything particular that got you where, you are today with King of the Cage?

TT: The fact that there were numerous jealous, hating people in the mixed martial arts industry. I fought back and most important in any business venture, I never ever gave up. Putting together an event such as King of the Cage was definitely the biggest challenge in anything I have ever done. At the same time from an entrepreneur standpoint, it has become the most accomplished / satisfying thing I have ever done also. Don’t get me wrong; Ted and I are definitely not done yet. We have a few marketing secrets I can’t let out of the bag just yet, that is going to take my event, King of the Cage, to the next level. A whole new era in fight sports and entertainment is about to be unleashed upon the public mainstream and King of the Cage will continue not only to succeed, but to be the best!

'PELE' CAN NOW TRAVEL TO US

Jose 'Pele' Landi-Jons told Brazilian magazine 'Tatame' that he can travel to the US, now that he has obtained a Brazilian passport.

Pele was born in Cuba and could not travel to the US because of the US embargo on Cuba. But he recently became a Brazilian citizen and can now travel anywhere for fights, and announced that he'd very much like to fight in America if the right offer comes his way.

ODDSMAKER CLAIMS 'FUNNY BUSINESS' TAKING PLACE WITH UFC REALITY SHOW BETTING

MMA oddsmaker Joey Oddessa had the following to say regarding the bets taking place regarding the winners of the 'The Ultimate Fighter' reality show:

"In all honesty I have to LOL @ the confidence agreement. I can pretty much tell you who won by who was bet. Naturally I won't disclose it, but fuk are some people dumb. After odds were up, the geographical locations, names, etc, of the players and the amt of wagers on ONLY a couple particular guys gave it away. (I know 4 guys are supposed to be in finals, but at +700 you can take both guys and collect 6-1 on your money regardless of who wins) I never underestimate the greed of people sometimes. To be honest, I expected it, thats why the odds only were up VERY briefly, low limits, and there was no public announcement of them being offered. I consider it another donation.

That said, dont think the fighters blabbed. I didnt see anything Bobby said in the forums. Could have been anyone really. But when a person sends money offshore........there usually is a paper trail. I am a bit dissappointed at the few that did pull the trigger while 'in the know.' These same guys must not be aware the technology of caller ID either. Pretty comical.

Peace."

FIGHTER DIARY: JOE "DIESEL" RIGGS

He's burst on the scene in the 185 pound weight class. Does he have what it takes to be a champion at 185? This week he could take a step closer if he can get by the tough David Loiseau at UFC 51. "The Diesel" Joe Riggs writes his daily fighter diary this week exclusively for MMAWeekly.com

It's about time for me to go to war. Everyday I wake up I think about the fight, when I go to sleep, I think about the fight. I'm in the best shape of my life and I'm ready to go. Just want to quickly say thank you to my friends, my sponsors and everyone supporting me this week.

Talked to the guys at MMAWeekly and they wanted me to break down my daily fighter diary, so here you go...
Today I wake up at 9am. While my training tails off this week, I'm still going to eat well. I will eat 4 to 5 wheat pancakes. I will eat a bowl of oatmeal and I drink some gatorade mixed with water. I also have some fruit....watermelons and strawberries will work for my breakfast.

My weight is really good for this fight. I'm at 194 right now. My weight is even better now than it was for Joe Doerksen so I'm pumped. I know Loiseau is a tough dude. For those who said I'm overlooking him, are you crazy? This is the UFC, you don't overlook anything. Everybody is tough, he's coming out hard and that's good for me. I've been thinking about this fight for two months straight, I'm in crazy good shape.

I hit the gym at 10:30am. This week it's pretty laid back compared to usual. I will hit the thai pads and focus mitt pads. I've been doing three five minute rounds on each. Then we've being doing some hard ground work. They been throwing in four fresh guys every couple of minutes. I have three wrestlers and one jiu-jitsu guy that have been trying to kick my ass. We have a drill, when I'm dog tired that if I can't take down my guy or he takes me down then I'm doing 20 push ups. It sucks, but I'm telling you it's worth it, getting me ready to go. This week I'm working on my technique more than anything.

At around 1:30 or 2pm I will eat a full lunch and hydrate my body. I will go to my sports medicine guys and my chiropractor and get my body right. I'm back at the gym from 4pm to 6pm for some light sparring, some vale tudo stuff, and work on my take downs.

For dinner I eat again another good meal with some chicken breast, a salad and a protein shake. Then tonight I'm just going to wind down and play some video games. My bro beats the hell out of me. Yes I'm the Arizona Cardinals on the game and yes I can beat your ass at play station. My bro always beats me though. He's usually the Eagles. When 10pm rolls around I sleep. Tomorrow I will tell you why I watch Finding Nemo....yeah the fish movie. LOL. See you tomorrow.

RIP Shawn

We have just been informed that local Kickboxer and MMA fighter Shawn Taylor has passed away. We would rather not say how he passed, but would just like to say that he was always a nice guy to us and everyone that saw him fight knew that he had a ton of heart. Some said even too much heart for his own good because he would never give up and fought like a warrior in every single fight he participated in.

We would just like to ask that everyone that reads our site please say a little prayer for Shawn, his family, and close friends to help them through this trying time.

COFFEE GUY EXCLUSIVE: RIGGS OUT OF UFC 51

Joe Riggs is off of the UFC 51 card due to an injury he sustained in training. He was supposed to face David Loiseau.

In fact, Zuffa has known that Riggs would be off the card for a few days now, but have still not called Loiseau to tell him. Loiseau had to find out from a friend on the internet that his opponent is off the card.

THE JAKE R. REPORT:
TITO PRICES HIMSELF OUT OF REMATCH WITH KEN SHAMROCK

By Jake R

Tito Ortiz recently issued a statement on his website accepting Ken Shamrock's challenge, stating that it was now up to Zuffa to make the fight happen. However, as reliable sources in both Iowa and Southern California have informed me, Tito Ortiz has in fact turned down the fight with Shamrock.

In reality, I have been informed that Ken Shamrock has agreed to the rematch, but Tito Ortiz has in effect turned the fight down. Despite what Ortiz has said in public, I have learned that Tito has priced himself out of rematching Shamrock. Tito's contract request for the second Shamrock fight far exceeds what Tito Ortiz, already one of the highest paid UFC fighters, normally makes.

As my sources explained, Tito knows this is the only face-saving option to turn down a rematch with Ken. Realizing Zuffa will never agree to a pay raise given his recent performances, and the hard feelings still existing over Tito's refusal to fight Chuck Liddell - and subsequent contract renegotiations - Ortiz believes he can still technically blame Zuffa for a rematch not happening and win the PR war on the internet.

As usual, stick to Fightsport.com and the Jake R Report for hard-hitting exclusives days, weeks, and even months ahead of the other news sites.

UFC MOVIE TO USE MFS AS EXAMPLE

According to QCTimes.com, the filmmaker of the upcoming UFC movie, John Herzfeld, will be using the Miletich Fighting Team as a main source of inspiration for the movie.

It is interesting to note that many fans of NHB/MMA consider the Miletich team as one of the most boring fight teams in all of NHB/MMA. However, this does not seem to concern Zuffa and the producers of the film one bit.
